Guests visiting Disney California Adventure Park recently faced a series of ride breakdowns that made significant portions of the park temporarily unavailable. Disneyland Resort visitors described an increasingly frustrating day as attractions broke down one after another, making it feel like half of the park was shut down.
On July 24, Redditor u/fryeguy2020 shared their experience of the chaos, calling it a “crazy day.” They explained, “We got either stuck on the ride, or were next in line on the ride when it broke, SIX times!!”
The breakdowns began with the Incredicoaster, where the group had a Lightning Lane but couldn’t ride due to technical difficulties. From there, the day took a downward spiral.
“It started to become comical. We had a Lightning Lane for the incredicoaster, but there were people stuck on it so we went the California Zephyr. It broke down as we were next. Then went to Goofy’s flight school. Again broke down right before it was our turn. Then went on Webslingers, got stuck on the ride. Then went on Soaring, got stuck on the ride right at the end of the flight. Then went on the Toy Story Midway ride, I joked about ‘wouldn’t it be funny if went down while we were on it’ and damn if it didn’t right after the first game.”
They weren’t the only Disney Park guests to experience these problems. Another Disney California Adventure Park guest, u/EscapeGoat81, recounted their day at the park, emphasizing the difficulty they encountered with rides not operating properly.
“We had fun – but the rides had lots of issues,” the guest said. “Incredicoaster was down all day. Radiator Springs didn’t open on time. Throughout the day, we saw almost every other ride break down. You definitely need to pack your patient pants!”
Other Reddit commenters shared similar stories from different Disney parks. u/HiLLCoUnTrYHiLLbiLLy posted about their experience at Walt Disney World Resort’s Hollywood Studios theme park on the same day, saying:
“Ironically we had the same kind of day at Disney world Hollywood studios on the same Thursday. Thankfully our other days at the park were successful. But Thursday at Hollywood studios was a great disappointment. I really feel like we should be compensated for a redo but I am guessing that isn’t a thing. Even the final show Fantasmic went wrong and got canceled. We went in early to get a seat and after 5 minutes it was over. Sorry that happened to yall. It stinks.”
Disneyland Resort did not issue a public statement on the operational difficulties at Disney California Adventure Park on July 24. Ride malfunctions are not uncommon at Disney parks, but issues are usually resolved within a few hours. Park-wide meltdowns are rare.
