Universal has brought back two Harry Potter experiences, marking a small but notable update within its expanding theme park portfolio.
For more than a decade, the Wizarding World has been central to Universal’s strategy. The first land — Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure — opened in 2010 and quickly drew global attention for its scale and detail.

At the center of that land was Hogwarts Castle, housing Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. The attraction, paired with a fully realized village, helped redefine how theme parks approached immersive storytelling.
The success of Hogsmeade led to rapid expansion. In 2014, Universal opened Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, linking the two lands with the Hogwarts Express and turning the resort into a connected, multi-park experience.

The concept has since been replicated internationally. Versions of the Wizarding World now operate in Hollywood, Beijing, and Japan, each following the same blueprint while introducing location-specific differences.
That growth continued in 2025 with the launch of Epic Universe in Orlando. The new park includes a Ministry of Magic land that blends settings from the original films with elements tied to the Fantastic Beasts series.
Two ‘Harry Potter' Offerings Return After Closure
Against that backdrop, two smaller Harry Potter experiences have now resumed operations after a temporary shutdown.

As of March 20, guests can once again visit Meet the Hogsmeade Magical Creatures and Hippogriff Magical Lesson at Universal Studios Japan.
Both experiences were introduced as part of a “Magical Creatures Encounter” offering. They allow guests to interact with creatures including a Hippogriff, a Niffler, and a baby dragon.
These types of interactions are not widely available in other versions of the Wizarding World, making them a distinctive feature of this location.
The experiences had been closed for roughly two months during colder seasonal conditions. Their return suggests they may now operate on a seasonal schedule.

At one point, guests feared the offerings had been permanently removed. The reopening appears to confirm they remain part of the park’s lineup.
Universal describes the experience as follows: “The vibrant village of Hogsmeade has recently become even livelier. Why? Because of the little magical creatures appear here and there!”
“The one rummaging through the mail in the cart in front of the Owl Post is a ‘Niffler' that loves shiny, sparkling treasures. In the plaza next to Hogsmeade station a creature trader is secretly carrying a ‘baby dragon' just hatched from an egg.”
“Mewing in front of Zonko’s ‘mischief store' is… Fluffy pink Pygmy Puffs! All of them are smart and cute, but be careful, as they can be unpredictable. Listen carefully to the wizards and take pictures with them.”
More ‘Harry Potter' Expansions in Development
The update comes as additional Harry Potter projects continue to move forward in multiple markets.
The planned Universal United Kingdom Resort initially appeared to exclude the franchise in early concept materials. More recent reports indicate that Harry Potter attractions are now expected to be included.

Elsewhere, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi has begun work on its own Harry Potter expansion.
Opening timelines for both developments have not been confirmed.
With an HBO Harry Potter reboot set for 2027, the franchise is expected to remain a key driver of new attractions and experiences in the years ahead.
