HBO has announced a new behind-the-scenes special tied to its upcoming Harry Potter series, giving fans an early look at the world of Hogwarts ahead of the show’s premiere.
Titled Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic Special, the featurette will debut on Sunday, April 5, and promises “an exclusive look inside the HBO series from the artists bringing it to life.” The special arrives months before the show itself, which is now confirmed to premiere on Christmas Day 2026. The new footage highlights key locations from the wizarding world, including the Hogwarts Express, the Great Hall, Diagon Alley, and the Forbidden Forest, offering a closer look than the official trailer that premiered on March 25.
Actor John Lithgow, who plays Albus Dumbledore in the series, reflects on the scale of the project in the preview. “The Harry Potter stories are this extraordinary phenomenon,” he says. “To reimagine the Harry Potter canon, to let it breathe, we get to enact all the things you know are going on in the wings but you don't see them.”

The HBO adaptation will run for seven seasons, each based on one of J. K. Rowling’s novels. The first installment is officially titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, dropping the Sorcerer’s Stone name used for U.S. audiences in the original film series.
Dominic McLaughlin leads the cast as Harry Potter, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The Hogwarts faculty includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. The wider cast features Nick Frost as Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Filch, and Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, among many others.
Behind the camera, Francesca Gardiner serves as writer and showrunner, with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes. J. K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman are attached as executive producers.
The series has faced controversy during development, including backlash surrounding Rowling’s views and reported security concerns involving cast members.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone premieres on December 25, 2026.
