Hurricane Ian Keeps Disney Cruise Ship Out at Sea, Cancels Friday Sailing

Disney Cruise Line Hurricane

Hurricane Ian has set a course for Central Florida and is set to bring a major impact to Walt Disney Disney World Resort and Disney Cruise Lineā€™s homeport at Port Canaveral, and a new update has emerged concerning Disney Cruise Lineā€™s ship, the Disney Wish.Ā

Originally set to return to Port Canaveral on Friday, September 30, it now appears that theĀ Disney WishĀ will stay out to see away from the affected area until Saturday, October 1. This news comes from Attractions Magazine, which shared a video taken from aboard the WishĀ as the Captain made the shipwide announcement.

The Captain said that part of the decision was due to the fact that not only could the weather affect port conditions but also ground transportation to and from the port itself. The announcement was met by cheers throughout theĀ Frozen-themed restaurant.

The Captain also mentioned that all Guests who booked flights through Disney Cruise Line will receive updated itineraries. It should be noted that the nearest major airport to Port Canaveral, Orlando International Airport (MCO), is expected to close on Wednesday, and there is no word yet when it will reopen.

Disney Cruise Lineā€™s website confirms that the Disney WishĀ will not return to port on schedule and that due to the Hurricane, a subsequent sailing is now canceled.

The notification states,

“We have been closely monitoring Hurricane Ianā€Æwith the safety and well-being of our Guests and Crew Members always top of mind.ā€ÆDue to the weather conditions most recentlyā€Æforecasted for Port Canaveral and Central Floridaā€Æand the impact that it might have on port operations, theā€ÆSeptember 30, 2022, sailing ofā€Ætheā€ÆDisney Wishā€Æhas been cancelled.”

This news follows Walt Disney World Resortā€™s recent decision to close all Theme Parks and Water Parks on Wednesday, September 28, and Thursday, September 29.
