One of the biggest criticisms of the last two Jurassic World films is that they never fully embraced the premise they spent years setting up.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022) ended with dinosaurs loose across the globe, seemingly opening the door to countless stories involving prehistoric animals invading everyday life. Yet Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) quietly abandoned that concept altogether.
Now, another dinosaur movie is doing exactly what many Jurassic fans had hoped to see.
The End of Oak Street (2026), directed by David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) and produced by J.J. Abrams, follows an ordinary suburban family whose entire neighborhood is mysteriously transported back to prehistoric Earth. Warner Bros.‘ official synopsis reads:
“After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.”
Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) and Ewan McGregor (Doctor Sleep) lead the cast.

Rather than placing dinosaurs in remote jungles or isolated research facilities, The End of Oak Street drops them into cul-de-sacs, front gardens, garages, and quiet residential streets. That's exactly the sort of imagery director David Robert Mitchell said inspired the project.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in May, Mitchell explained that the idea came while walking through his neighborhood in Michigan. “I was passing by this garage [with a] chain link fence and garbage cans,” he recalled. “I was struck by the image of, like, ‘It'd be really interesting if there was a dinosaur right there.'”
But the latest trailer hints at something even stranger. During one sequence, a young girl can be heard singing the famous Flintstones theme song while dinosaurs rampage through the suburban streets. It's probably just a playful joke, but what if it isn't?
The similarities are difficult to ignore. The Platts are an ordinary suburban family suddenly forced to live alongside dinosaurs in prehistoric times—essentially becoming “a modern Stone Age family.” Sound familiar?
The Flintstones has already received two live-action adaptations with 1994's The Flintstones and 2000's The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas. But if Warner Bros. secretly wanted to sneak in another origin story without telling anyone beforehand, The End of Oak Street would certainly be one way to do it.
At the very least, it's finally giving audiences the suburban dinosaur movie Jurassic World never quite delivered.
The End of Oak Street will be released on August 14, 2026.
