Disney fans have long been known for their deep love of the parks, the experiences, and of course, the exclusive merchandise. For some, this obsession with Disney collectibles turns into something extraordinary. Meet Karrie Goelz, a Disney enthusiast whose passion for Mickey ears has led her to amass a collection valued at over $50,000—a remarkable achievement that’s as much about memory-making as it is about the ears themselves.

Karrie’s love affair with Mickey ears didn’t start overnight. In fact, it began rather innocently. As a child, Karrie, like many Disney fans, would occasionally purchase Mickey ears during her visits to the theme parks. These trips sparked the beginning of a growing fondness for the iconic headbands, but it wasn’t until 2012 that her passion would truly take flight.
The moment that would change everything happened during a holiday visit to Walt Disney World, where Karrie had her eyes set on a particular pair of Mickey ears. Unfortunately, when she arrived at the park, they were sold out. She spent the remainder of her vacation searching desperately for them, but to no avail.
That frustration led Karrie to make a promise to herself: she would never let a pair of Mickey ears slip through her fingers again.

The hunt for Mickey ears quickly became more than just a search for merchandise—it became a full-blown obsession. With every Disney trip, Karrie sought out the perfect ears to pair with the memories of her time at the parks. From a few pairs, her collection grew into a vast and valuable assortment. What started as a simple love for Mickey ears evolved into a dedication that now spans thousands of dollars.
In 2018, Karrie’s life took another twist when she moved from Indiana to Orlando, Florida. This move brought her closer to Disney World, allowing her to make frequent trips to the parks. The proximity meant that she was first in line for exclusive releases, and her Mickey ear collection continued to expand at an accelerated pace. By 2020, she realized just how extensive her collection had become, and it was at that point that she decided to share it with the world.

With over 1,700 pairs of Mickey ears, Karrie’s collection is nothing short of extraordinary. Its value? More than $50,000. These aren’t just any ears—they are pieces of Disney history, some of which are incredibly rare and highly sought after. Among her most prized possessions are the $600 Mickey ears from Disney’s collaboration with Heidi Klum and the $750 pair released for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Karrie explained the deeper connection her collection holds:
“I had no idea how many other collectors [are] out there, too,” Goelz says. During the pandemic, when people were looking for ways to keep Disney magic in their lives, I started sharing more, not just about ears, but about all the new releases. That’s when I really saw how many people were eager to connect.”

Through social media, Karrie has met fellow collectors from all over the world, some of whom have become close friends. She refers to them fondly as her “ear sisters,” and together, they share tips, stories, and, of course, their latest finds.
While the majority of Karrie’s collection consists of ears that average around $40 each, the rarer, limited-edition pieces add a special layer to her passion. Her collection is a living testament to her love for Disney and her ability to connect with others through shared interests. With Disney’s 70th anniversary at Disneyland Resort, Karrie continues to add to her collection, eagerly awaiting the next limited-edition release.
