The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers has long been a fan-favorite franchise, first introduced in 1993 and remaining a prominent part of pop culture ever since. From its roots in the Japanese Super Sentai series to becoming a major part of the American TV landscape, the franchise has seen countless iterations and adaptations.
Now, the next chapter of this iconic superhero series is set to unfold. And this time, it’s once again under the Disney banner.

According to an exclusive report from TheWrap, Disney is currently working on a new Power Rangers series for Disney+. This marks a new phase for the franchise, as it transitions to the streaming platform under the guidance of the showrunners behind the beloved Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write, showrun and produce a live-action “Power Rangers” series for Disney+ and 20th Century TV, TheWrap has exclusively learned.
Hasbro will produce the series, which will reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers.
Power Rangers first debuted with Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, which captured the hearts of viewers, especially those in their youth during the 1990s. The series was an immediate hit and became a cultural phenomenon, thanks to its mix of superhero action and relatable teenage characters.
After three seasons, the franchise took on new forms with various spinoffs, with the most recent being Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, which aired in September 2023.
But beyond TV, Power Rangers has enjoyed a tumultuous movie history. The first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie hit theaters in 1995, followed by Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997. These early films were produced by 20th Century Fox and were relatively well-received by fans.

However, the 2017 Power Rangers reboot failed to spark the revival that Lionsgate had hoped for. The film, a darker, more mature take on the franchise, didn’t quite resonate with audiences in the way the original TV series did.
Even though the film had a hefty budget of around $100 million, it grossed just $182 million, which effectively put an end to any hopes for further films in the rebooted series.
Despite the setbacks, the franchise continued to find new life with a Netflix special titled Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once & Always, released in 2023. The special quickly became a fan favorite, cementing the Power Rangers’ place in modern pop culture.
But despite the ongoing appeal, the franchise never found a steady home. Over the years, the series has bounced from network to network, including Fox Kids, ABC Kids, Nickelodeon, and Netflix.
Further exciting news about Hasbro’s ventures includes a slew of other projects in the works, including a Clue film, a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series, and an animated Magic: The Gathering series.
The big question remains: What will this new version of the Power Rangers look like under Disney’s guidance? With such experienced hands at the helm, fans can expect a fresh take on the franchise while still maintaining the essence that made the original series so beloved.
We do not have any details on the new series, but Disney Fanatic will be sure to keep readers in the loop as we learn more.
