‘James Bond’ Reboot Adds Eighth Actor to New Lineup

James Bond is set to return to both screens and consoles in the coming years. But while the next film from Amazon MGM, which is being directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), has yet to confirm a release date, fans will soon return to the world of the most iconic secret agent with “007 First Light”, IO Interactive’s upcoming video game.

Unlike previous games, “First Light” tells an original story that delves into a younger James Bond’s early days with MI6, providing a new perspective on the iconic spy’s origin.

Other Familiar James Bond Characters Also Return

But while the game is an origin story, it still features plenty of familiar characters in addition to Bond, who's played by Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin, The OA).

There's M, Q, and Moneypenny, who are played by Priyanga Burford, Alastair Mackenzie, and Kiera Lester, respectively.

However, until now, the game hasn't revealed any villains — at least not the actors who are playing them. We know that Bond will be facing a rogue agent throughout the game, whose identity remains anonymous, but now, IO Interactive has unveiled a supporting villain who goes by the name Bawma.

New Actor Now Confirmed

At the recent annual Game Awards, IO Interactive released a new trailer confirming that Grammy-winning American musician Lenny Kravitz (also known for playing Cinna in the original Hunger Games films) will play Bawma.

The footage shows Bond and Greenway suspended above a pit of crocodiles, immediately signaling the danger posed by Kravitz’s character. Bawma is described as the leader of a black-market arms network operating in the region of Aleph, positioning him as a formidable adversary for a young, inexperienced Bond. Other cast members in the game include Lennie James as Bond’s mentor John Greenway, Noemie Nakai as the enigmatic Miss Roth, and Gemma Chan as MI6’s Head of Tactical Simulation Selina Tan.

When Is “007 First Light” Out?

“007 First Light” will be released on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows on March 27, 2026.

The official website describes the game as “a thrilling narrative action-adventure game developed and published by IO Interactive,” inviting players to “Follow James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy.”
