Jenna Ortega Faces Backlash Over Viral Fan Encounter at ‘Wednesday’ Premiere

At just 22 years old, Jenna Ortega has captured the attention of millions thanks to her magnetic performances and unfiltered personality. Rising to prominence through roles in projects like Jane the Virgin and Stuck in the Middle, the young actress’s career reached new heights when she was cast as Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s gothic phenomenon Wednesday. Since then, Ortega has cemented her status as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars.

With her career on the rise and Wednesday Season 2 finally making its way to Netflix, Ortega and her castmates are back in the spotlight. After years of anticipation, the Addams family is returning in a brand-new chapter that promises drama, powers, and new secrets from Nevermore Academy. Fans have been following each promotional event leading up to the premiere, but one recent red carpet appearance has stirred a very different kind of conversation online.

While attending the London premiere of Wednesday’s second season, Ortega appeared on the red carpet to greet fans and participate in press events with fellow cast members, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Christina Ricci, Emma Myers, and Luis Guzmán.

In a now-viral clip shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Ortega is seen signing autographs for fans before appearing visibly frustrated when someone screams her name. The actress then appears to motion for the fans to stop yelling.

Oh she’s pissed off and rightfully so, screaming in her face like that is so unnecessary

The moment triggered a split reaction on social media. While some fans sympathized with the actress, others were quick to accuse her of being cold or unkind, especially because the shouting voice appeared to belong to a young girl.

imagine meeting your idol and this is the way they act towards you, I’d just kms 😪.

Damn… Jenna let the fame get to her head I’m not rocking with this, be respectful to your fans

It’s a little kid WTF, damn she’s unlikeable

Still, a vocal segment of Ortega’s fanbase jumped to her defense, pointing out that the actress has been transparent about her struggles with anxiety and overstimulation in high-pressure environments.

She has been open about having anxiety, YOU DON’T F***ING YELL AT SOMEONE WITH ANXIETY! It’s common sense.

She stood her ground without being disrespectful, handled it better than most would

People forget that staying calm often speaks louder than shouting ever could

Her fans are mostly made up of young girls ages like 12 to 18. They’re gonna be a little socially inept and very excited to see you… which may make them scream…

This is sad. It’s not that serious nor she is in any danger. She is ‘on the clock’ as a celebrity doing press and should learn how to manage the frustration more professionally and not ruin the excitement and once in a lifetime moment for their fans

As this clip continues to gain attention, Ortega remains focused on the project at hand: bringing Wednesday Addams back to screens with a new season that promises darker turns, new mysteries, and a more active role for the Addams family. This time, Wednesday returns to Nevermore Academy voluntarily, with her family accompanying her. Her brother Pugsly even enrolls as a student but has trouble fitting in due to his developing electrokinesis.

Season 2 will also dive deeper into the past of Morticia and Gomez Addams, and fans will finally get to meet Grandmama in person. With eight episodes set to air in two parts, Netflix will debut the first four episodes on August 6, with the second half dropping on September 13.

Do you think the moment on the red carpet was taken out of context, or do fans deserve more grace when they meet their idols? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments—and let us know which Wednesday character you’re most excited to see return!

  1. Oh my! Isn’t she supposed to be quirky? This seems like Jenna acted in the range of how her character would act. I’m giving her a huge pass and a pat on the back.
We are so anxious to watch another season.
