Not everyone liked the new Pixar movie Turning Red (an animated film in which Mei, a 13 year-old girl, turns into a giant red panda) — but many viewers did find that they could identify with Mei and her friends’ fangirling over a boy band. In the movie Turning Red, the fictional boy band was 4*Town (which featured Disney darling Jordan Fisher as one of the lead singers) — and who better to discuss a boy band with than the Jonas Brothers?
Kevin Jonas and Frankie Jonas recently spoke to D23 and expressed their thoughts on 4*Town, which is a K-pop boy band in Turning Red that Mei and her friends are obsessed with. The band members in 4*Town are Aaron Z., Aaron T., Robaire, Jesse, and Tae Young. Robaire is the character voiced by Jordan Fisher, while Grayson Villanueva, Finneas O’Connell, Josh Levi, and Topher Ngo are the other voiceover actors.
“[I’m] kind of obsessed with them,” Kevin Jonas said. “I mean, they did it right. It was everything that you love from N*SYNC, Backstreet [Boys], to a little bit of K-pop which of course is what’s going on there. I love that it was an important thing for them, that band for that group of girls to identify with”.
Meilin Lee (voiced by Rosalie Chiang) and Robaire (voiced by Jordan Fisher). Since Meilin Lee’s obsession with the boy band and her friends’ shared obsession leads to the main plot of the Pixar movie, the girls’ love for 4*Town is definitely significant! Kevin Jonas was one of the three singers in the Jonas Brothers boy band, with siblings Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas taking most of the limelight, while Frankie Jonas was not in the band and (until now) has not been well known as a celebrity.
Are you a fan of any classic and iconic boy bands like the Jonas Brothers? Have you been following the solo careers of Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas after they appeared together in movies like the 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock and its 2010 sequel Camp Rock: Final Jam?
