The 73rd Disney Channel Original MovieĀ Camp RockĀ premiered in 2008, and nowĀ Camp RockĀ is actually 14 years old (i.e. around the age of its lead characters) as of June 20!
Many Disney Channel fans will say that Camp RockĀ is one of the most iconic Disney Channel Original Movies, beaten perhaps only by the High School MusicalĀ series and a few other notable standalone films likeĀ Princess Protection ProgramĀ (which the lead actress fromĀ Camp Rock, Demi Lovato, also starred in alongside Selena Gomez).
Disney+ shared a clip from the end of Camp RockĀ in honor of the Disney Channel Original Movie’s anniversary, highlighting a sweet and romantic moment between the two main characters Mitchie and Shane (played by Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato) that rivals the heartwarming “Breaking Free” duet at the end of the High School Musical.
In this clip being shared, Mitchie is struggling to perform her piece during the end-of-summer Final Jam competition (a song she has written called “This Is Me”) and Shane joins in unexpectedly with his own original song, “Gotta Find You”.

Shane (who is played by Joe Jonas from the Jonas Brothers music group) is a pop star who is teaching at the music-focused summer camp called “Camp Rock”, and Mitchie is a shy girl attending the summer camp at a discount rate because her mother (played by Wizards of Waverly PlaceĀ actress Maria Canals-Barrera) has been hired as the camp’s cook.

Many Disney Channel Original Movies are known for being metaphorical ‘comfort food’ (i.e. entertaining, heartwarming, and somewhat fluffy or lighthearted), andĀ Camp RockĀ was a huge success. It was followed by a 2010 sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, and continues to be represented indirectly in new shows like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (which includes a summer camp setting and themes similar to those of Camp Rock in its third season on Disney+).
Are you going to celebrateĀ Camp Rock‘s 14th anniversary by rewatching both movies and singing along to the songs from the soundtrack?
