More voices are making themselves heard when it comes to the Disney vs. DeSantis feud, and these voices are markedly unhappy with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The Walt Disney Company and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s friction was sparked by disagreements surrounding the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill introduced by Governor DeSantis in February 2022. What started as such has long since escalated into a complex and prolonged conflict; just when it appeared that one side had emerged victorious, the other would strike back and reignite the dispute. It’s been a rollercoaster ride of back and forth between the two parties.

Disney vs. DeSantis: The King Charles Clause
With one strategic move to out-maneuver Governor DeSantis—the King Charles clause—the Walt Disney Company appeared to call an end to the ongoing battle. However, it was an action that was met with significant backlash from the governor himself and his appointed board; the board moved to void the agreement, which then resulted in Walt Disney World suing the Florida Governor. In turn, the board retaliated by suing Walt Disney World.
It’s been a whirlwind of events that has spiraled and escalated to a fight that has overtaken headlines consistently for the last few weeks.
DeSantis & the Walt Disney World Monorail
But while all this has been happening, there is one other piece of legislature that’s been making its way through the Florida government. It’s one that could put the Disney Monorail and railroad under the Department of Transportation.
As reported by The Palm Beach Post, “The tentative new legislation gives the state the power to oversee any ‘privately owned fixed-guideway transportation systems operating in this state which are located within an independent special district created by local act which have boundaries within two contiguous counties.'”

Needless to say, many are unimpressed, and one columnist for The Palm Beach Post, in particular, questioned whether DeSantis’s “vendetta” was “off the rails.”
Frank Cerabino questioned, “Why would a person with a seat at the adults’ table act with such a junior-high level of maturity to hurt the state’s biggest tourism draw?”
As he opined,
The state of Florida has our safety concerns as a top priority here. Lawmakers may be encouraging more gun homicides and leading more Florida women to back-alley abortions but nobody will ever say Florida is turning its back on the perils of the Disney monorail.
The issue has certainly drawn the ire of many journalists, critics, fellow politicians, and more, and has become one that will likely characterize both Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s and Disney’s legacies.
