Jurassic Park (1993) could make a leap audiences never expected: live-action television. While it may sound far-fetched, HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series shows that even the most iconic film franchises can find new life on the small screen while exploring corners of the source material the films never touched.

The Jurassic Park films have had a remarkable run since 1993. After a 14-year pause following Jurassic Park III (2001), the franchise returned with Jurassic World (2015), which grossed $1.671 billion worldwide. Most recently, Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) proved the series still has box office clout, even if critics and longtime fans were unimpressed.
Beyond the films, the franchise has spanned animated TV shows, video games, novels, theme park rides, and merchandise galore—but one avenue remains untapped: television.

HBO’s Harry Potter adaptation highlights the potential of revisiting established worlds in a new format. The series is expected to adapt J. K. Rowling’s books with remarkable fidelity, providing a deep dive into the source material that films can only touch on.
A Jurassic Park TV series could follow a similar approach, exploring Michael Crichton’s novels in more detail while separating itself from the blockbuster films.
For fans concerned about recasting, a TV series wouldn’t need to include Sam Neill, Laura Dern, or Jeff Goldblum. Instead, it could establish its own continuity while preserving the original film series on the big screen. Similar to Harry Potter, a Jurassic Park series could coexist with future films, offering something new while honoring Crichton’s original vision.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone premieres on HBO on Christmas 2026.
