Booming footsteps. Vibrating coffee cups. No, it’s not another blackout—it’s Jurassic World Rebirth. Slated to premiere on July 2, 2025, this seventh installment in the legendary franchise brings together a powerhouse cast, including Marvel’s Scarlett Johansson, Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali, and Bridgerton’s own Jonathan Bailey. Their mission? To secure genetic material from prehistoric beasts on a mysterious island. But as with any Jurassic adventure, expect the unexpected.

The film introduces Johansson as Zora Bennett, a covert specialist leading a team of experts, including Ali’s Duncan Kincaid and Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis. Their dangerous assignment intersects with a shipwrecked family and uncovers a dark secret buried for decades.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, known for his minimalist yet gripping creature features like Monsters (2010) and Godzilla (2014), Jurassic World Rebirth seeks to reignite the franchise’s original terror. Edwards teases a return to authentic dinosaur horror while seemingly moving away from hybrid creations that dominated the Jurassic World trilogy. “Dinosaurs are mythical yet real,” Edwards says in an exclusive interview with Empire Magazine. “There’s something primal about them that taps into our ancient survival instincts.”

With Steven Spielberg as an executive producer, David Koepp returning to script duties, and a creative team of paleontologists like Steve Brusatte and Jack Horner, the film boasts an equally stellar creative team. Koepp’s earlier contributions to Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World (1997) bring a classic touch, while the storyline propels the franchise forward.
The plot picks up five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion (2022), placing our protagonists in the crosshairs of land, sea, and air predators. Though the exact species remain under wraps, Edwards promises a blend of legacy dinosaurs and new species. Speculation hints at aquatic giants such as the Mosasaurus, flying reptiles akin to Quetzalcoatlus, and perhaps a sauropod to complete the trio. “There are new things in the film that I’m really excited about,” he tells Empire, “but equally, there are certain dinosaurs it would be a crime against cinema not to include. Hopefully it’s a good combination.”
Filming is complete, and the team is now finalizing the theatrical cut. If Edwards’ style is any indicator, the first trailer could withhold glimpses of the dinosaurs, building suspense instead of spoiling the scares. The director’s “less-is-more” philosophy is poised to emphasize dread, much like Spielberg’s original vision.
With a robust cast featuring Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and rising stars like Luna Blaise, the ensemble ensures dynamic performances. As Universal Pictures teases with official stills, fans eagerly await the thrill ride promised by the franchise’s return to its roots.
