Last month, King Charles III was spread across headlines in connection with Disney. It seemed odd then, but it turned out that it was just Disney punking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Just before the Reedy Creek Improvement District was dissolved, it signed an agreement with the Walt Disney Company that allowed Disney to have control over the District until 21 years after the last descendant of King Charles III had died.
The “King Charles” clause was a poke in the eye of the incoming Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board and Governor DeSantis. Of course, now the entire case has ended up in court, and Disney fans won’t likely see a resolution to this any time soon. So, that isn’t the best Walt Disney World news.
King Charles then made more Disney news when it was announced that a boy’s choir would sing “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from Disney’s Lion King (1994). The choice of songs made perfect sense, given that Charles has waited nearly three decades to be king. But in some respects, it was an odd choice, given that to be king, his mother had to die.
And then Charles made an even stranger musical selection with his choice of “Be Prepared,” also from The Lion King. Scar performs the song about killing his brother, the king. It seems to reason that King Charles III has never actually seen the movie.
Although he also chose “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” written by Sir Elton John. John was close friends with Charles’ first wife, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in 1997. Elton John revised the lyrics to his song, “Candle in the Wind,” for Diana’s funeral. Again, another strange choice of music.
And now, this. For King Charles III’s Coronation Concert, the beloved Disney character Winnie the Pooh is one of the headlining Guests. Yes, that Winnie the Pooh.
At the concert, Tom Cruise, Dame Joan Collins, Sir Tom Jones, and adventurer Bear Grylls will join Pooh. King Charles III’s Coronation occurs on Saturday, May 6, while the concert is the following day at Windsor Castle. Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Take That will perform the actual music.
The event will also include Steve Winwood with the Commonwealth Virtual Choir. It will also feature singers and musical artists from around the world.
Exactly what role Winnie the Pooh will play in this is still unclear. However, the BBC speculates that Charles and Pooh Bear would do a sketch similar to the one that his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and Paddington Bear did in 2022.
It will be interesting to see what kind of Disney-related news King Charles III had in mind next. Whatever it is, we will keep you updated at Disney Fanatic.
