Even though the live-action Mulan movie was released by Disney last autumn, the adaptation of the classic Disney film has continued to make an impression on Disney Plus audiences. Liu Yifei, the actress who played Mulan, took to Instagram to celebrate the Disney movie’s newly-won Saturn Award for “Best Action/Adventure Film”, and she celebrated with something that Disney fans or movie enthusiasts always love: behind-the-scenes photos! Yifei shared pictures of the training process for Mulan, the crew that she worked with (including director Niki Caro), and the stuntwork that goes into making an action or adventure movie–even one that’s not about a Disney princess.
Many people don’t realize that months of early mornings, late nights, and exceedingly-long workdays go into a film. Horseback riding, combat, and endurance training were all part of Liu Yifei’s training regimen to play Mulan, because actors have to repeat stunts, fight scenes, or horseback stunts many times to ensure that the camera crew gets the right shots! Yifei’s glimpses into the hard work behind the scenes is particularly timely, since the issue of overworked film and TV crews is currently at the forefront of the industry. Simu Liu, who plays the lead and one of Marvel’s newest superheroes in the new Marvel movie Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings, also shed some light on how much time and effort goes into stuntwork!
Yifei has also shared some behind-the-scenes photos from on-set in the past; check them out below!
