Character Meets Getting Too Realistic? Live-Action “Remy” Spotted at Disney Park

Today marks 16 years since the culinary phenomenon in the form of a rodent captured the hearts of Pixar fans everywhere. Remy the Rat was an underdog in the restaurant industry who mastered French cuisine behind the guise of a chef’s hat in Ratatouille (2007).

Earning $623 million at the box office during its theatrical run, Remy won over more critics than just Anton Ego. The restauranteur rat was such a hit with Disney fans that the animated film star moved into the Parks. In 2021, the France Pavilion got a permanent rodent resident, and Remy moved into The World Showcase.

Not only did “Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure” become one of EPCOT’s most competitive Genie+ reservations, but the pavilion expanded to include the Allée des Marchands (Alley of the Merchants), featuring Chef Skinner’s scooter and Chef Colette’s motorbike, wine bottles inspired by Anton Ego called “Château Ego,” and Remy paddling along the sewer covers.

While Disney Guests all over the globe celebrate Remy, including Disneyland Paris with its attraction called “Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy,” fans in Disneyland were caught off guard by an unexpected Remy appearance.

Move Over, Mickey; there’s a New Rodent in Town

Like Auguste Gusteau’s aversion to anything threatening its pristine reputation, Disney works tirelessly to keep its Parks in mint condition. With a four-prong, innovative system to ward off pests like mosquitoes in Walt Disney World, the family entertainment empire is adept at preventing mouse-haps involving critters.

But keeping every rodent at bay is impossible, with 500 acres to cover at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. On Reddit, just one day before Ratatouille’s 16th birthday, u/Sn1038 shared a character cameo that no one expected:

Remy made an appearance before WOC at California Adventure tonight. A rat ran around paradise garden about 5 minutes before the show tonight.

Aptly timed right before Disneyland’s “World of Color” spectacular at the Disney California Adventure Park, which features fan-favorite Disney-Pixar film moments projected on an immense water screen, a live-action “Remy” ran out in plain sight. Disney Cast Members and crew refer to a rat sighting as a “Mortimer,” but with the conditions around the encounter, we’re going to bet it was a “Remy.”

We’ll never know whether or not its goal was to steal the spotlight from Mickey or snag a recipe from Pacific Wharf Café, but one thing’s sure: this Rat’s timing was spot on.
