Mace Windu’s ‘Star Wars’ Return Confirmed by Lucasfilm

The fan-favorite character Mace Windu is finally coming back to Star Wars. The Jedi Master’s next adventure, Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories – Mace, is scheduled for Fall 2026, and it promises to explore a younger Windu at the start of his Jedi career.

Of course, Windu’s legacy in the faraway galaxy extends far beyond his first appearance in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), where he was introduced as a senior Jedi on the Council. Samuel L. Jackson reprised his role in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and finally in Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith (2005), but that was the last we ever saw of him in live action.

In animation, Terrence C. Carson voiced Mace Windu, from the 2003 Clone Wars miniseries through Tales of the Jedi (2022), maintaining a consistent voice for the Jedi Master across nearly two decades. Comics and novels have also kept the character alive.

Now, Per TheDirectStar Wars: Hyperspace Stories – Mace will flesh out the character even further. The story is written by Justina Ireland, with interior art by Georges Duarte, additional art by PH Gomes, and lettering by ComiCraft. Michael Cho provides the cover art.

In the novel, Windu is sent to protect an alien king, but the mission escalates into a high-stakes conspiracy involving scheming politicians and dangerous revolutionaries—a chance for fans to see the Jedi Master navigating diplomacy and danger long before he was killed by Darth Sidious/Sheev Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) in Revenge of the Sith.

With Hyperspace Stories – Mace, readers can finally see a detailed portrait of Windu at the start of his journey, navigating the galaxy as a Jedi and confronting political intrigue.

For fans who have long speculated about his fate, this story adds another layer to a character whose presence has always loomed large, both on-screen and in expanded Star Wars media. And while nothing is confirmed regarding a live-action return for Samuel L. Jackson, Mace Windu continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the galaxy far, far away.
