Magic Kingdom Guests Claim a “Loophole” to Revive Liberty Belle After Perminant Closure

As Disney embarks on a major expansion at Magic Kingdom Park, including the introduction of a new ‘Cars' themed area, the park has seen the closure of some beloved attractions. Among those affected are the Liberty Belle, Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer Island.

A “Loophole” in the Closure

The fun began when certain guests received certificates on the final day of operations for the Liberty Belle, which has now closed for the expansion. These certificates, signed by none other than Mickey Mouse, humorously declare that the recipient is “licensed” to act as a pilot on the Rivers of America for one year. The certificate reads:

The undersigned Inspector for the District of Liberty Square certifies that: (NAME) has been examined this day and has successfully demonstrated proficiency as PILOT of THE LIBERTY BELLE and is hereby declared licensed to act as such for one year from this date on THE RIVERS of AMERICA in the MAGIC KINGDOM at the WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT.

With the certificate in hand, guests are joking that they now hold the key to saving the Liberty Belle, or at least gaining access to it in the future. “Think I found a loophole,” one guest posted, sharing a picture of their certificate. “Think they’ll let me use this today? It says it’s good for a year.” Another guest followed suit, writing, “I have mine too. TOGETHER WE STORM THE SHIP.”

A Playful Gesture with Big Sentiment

Although Disney clearly intended the certificates as a fun gesture to mark the closing of a beloved attraction, the playful “loophole” idea has quickly gained traction among Disney fans. Many guests are treating the signed certificates as a token of their affection for the Liberty Belle, adding a sense of nostalgia to the park's ever-evolving story.

The Liberty Belle has been a central feature of Magic Kingdom for decades, offering guests a classic boat ride experience along with a piece of Disney history. While the park prepares for new attractions, including the Cars-themed expansion, the closure of the Liberty Belle has left many fans wistful for the past. Still, the lighthearted “loophole” discussion is a testament to the enduring love that guests have for the park’s rich legacy.

A Look Ahead

While the Liberty Belle remains closed, and guests can’t yet use their certificates to board the steamboat, the fun surrounding the “loophole” offers a glimpse into the continued magic Disney fans create, even amid changes. The future of the attraction, alongside the ongoing expansion, remains closed, but for now, Disney’s history lives on through the playful spirit of its guests.

For those looking forward to the upcoming changes and expansions, it’s a reminder that, in the world of Disney, there’s always room for a little bit of magic and humor—even in the face of change.
