Magic Kingdom Is Bringing Back a Piece of Pirate History in the Coolest Way

Adventureland is about to get a whole lot rowdier—and way more legendary.

Disney Imagineers just revealed a first look at The Beak and Barrel, an upcoming pirate-themed tavern set to open later this year at Magic Kingdom.

While it’s located just steps from the classic Pirates of the Caribbean ride, this new addition isn’t just an extension of the attraction. It’s a full-fledged experience designed to make you feel like you’ve stumbled into a real pirate haunt, complete with ghost stories, magical relics, and one very talkative parrot.

Step Into the Story

The tavern's backstory centers around Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn—a rum-smuggling pirate who founded this rogue establishment—and her feathered companion Rummy, a clever animatronic parrot who perches above the bar. But this isn’t just any bird. Longtime Disney fans will recognize Rummy’s design as a callback to the Barker Bird, the cheeky animatronic that used to welcome guests outside the Pirates ride before vanishing years ago.

It’s a throwback done right—and exactly the kind of surprise Disney fans love to stumble across.

A Pirate’s Hideout Worth Exploring

Inside, guests will get to explore themed rooms like the Mapmaker’s Room and the Captains’ Booths, all designed with heavy pirate vibes: candlelit corners, busted-up ship parts, and nautical artifacts tucked into every shadow. The heart of the tavern is “The Mess”—a communal dining space that used to be a Spanish soldiers’ mess hall, now covered in wax, ropes, and the remnants of one-too-many pirate feasts.

The Imagineering team didn’t stop with set design. They also brought in storytelling elements, magical effects, and even a rumored bottle enchanted by Tia Dalma herself. Whether or not that bottle glows or grants pirate wishes remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure—this won’t be your average Disney lounge.

It’s Not Just a Bar—It’s an Experience

Unlike Oga’s Cantina over at Hollywood Studios, The Beak and Barrel will offer more than themed cocktails. Disney has teased “enchanting surprises,” including mysterious artifacts that appear to move or come alive. There’s even talk of miniature ship-in-a-bottle battles happening in the Captains’ Quarters—if you catch them at just the right time.

Each party will have a limited 45-minute visit, and drinks are capped at two per guest (because even pirates have park rules). But the goal isn’t to hang around—it's to be immersed in an interactive, living story.

Adventureland's Next Big Chapter

For years, guests have wished for more pirate-themed spaces to explore, and this one delivers in a big way. From the resurrection of a long-lost character to the layers of new storytelling, The Beak and Barrel feels like a natural (and very exciting) evolution of Adventureland.

So whether you’re a longtime fan of the franchise or just here for a photo with a flaming rum bottle, this is one tavern you won’t want to miss.
