Marvel Just Revealed Phase 7 Timeline Through 2029

Marvel has a funny way of revealing its plans. Sometimes it does it from a stage in front of thousands of screaming fans. Other times, it happens quietly, through a calendar update that most people would miss if they were not paying attention.

That is what makes this latest stretch so interesting.

A few release-date shifts may not sound like the kind of thing that changes the conversation around the MCU, but that may be exactly what is happening here. One project moved. Two new dates appeared. Another slot vanished. Put together, those moves make it feel like Marvel is preparing for the next phase of its movie slate long before it formally announces it.

And if that is true, the post-Secret Wars future may already be coming into view.

Everything Still Runs Through the End of Phase 6

As tempting as it is to jump ahead, Marvel still has unfinished business. Phase 6 is expected to end with Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), which gives this part of the saga enormous weight.

Those two movies are not just another pair of Avengers team-ups. They are expected to close out the Multiverse Saga and deal with the chaos Marvel has been building for years. Alternate timelines, returning legacy characters, new versions of familiar faces, and the larger question of what the MCU becomes after all of that are still hanging over everything.

That is why the next slate already feels so important. Once Secret Wars (2027) finishes, Marvel may have a clean opening to reshape the franchise.

A Few Schedule Changes Carry Bigger Meaning

According to The Wrap, Marvel Studios recently adjusted several long-range theatrical dates. One movie, once scheduled for early 2028, is now scheduled for late July of that year. Two additional release dates have appeared in 2029. Another 2028 date is no longer on the board.

That kind of movement often says more than a press release does.

Instead of flooding the calendar, Marvel seems to be trimming things down and spacing them out. If the current setup reflects the bones of Phase 7, the studio may be looking at a five-film run across 2028 and 2029.

That would be a clear change in pacing. And after the franchise’s rapid expansion across both theaters and streaming, that kind of discipline could be exactly what Marvel wants.

The Next Phase Could Lean on Its Strongest Corners

One of the clearest possibilities is a sequel to The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025). After introducing Marvel’s first family, that film already seems positioned to launch a larger story.

Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are all expected to stay in the mix, and the next movie could answer major questions about where the team belongs after the next Avengers crossover. Franklin Richards also stands out as a character who could become increasingly important.

The Wakanda side of the MCU also looks far from finished. A third Black Panther movie appears to have strong momentum, with Letitia Wright and Winston Duke expected back in major roles. Ryan Coogler remains central to the franchise, and the discussion around Denzel Washington joining the story has only made the project more intriguing. At the same time, Marvel still faces questions about how it may handle T’Challa going forward.

Marvel’s Mutant Era Could Start Here

If there is one film that feels like a genuine turning point, it is X-Men. Marvel finally has the chance to bring the mutant team fully under its own banner, and that alone makes the project one of the most-watched films on the rumored slate.

Cyclops and Jean Grey are expected to be central figures, while names like Beast, Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Angel continue to come up in early reports. Mr. Sinister also remains a popular possibility for the main villain. With Jake Schreier reportedly attached and Michael Lesslie working on the script, this movie already feels like a major priority.

Doctor Strange may also help bridge Marvel’s old and new directions. A third film centered on Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer could continue the thread left by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), especially with Clea and the Dark Dimension now waiting in the story. Sam Raimi’s possible return would only strengthen that direction.

And then there is Deadpool. After Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) became such a huge global hit, Marvel has every reason to keep that momentum going. Ryan Reynolds seems likely to return, and Hugh Jackman could still be part of that future, too. If a fourth Deadpool film closes out the slate, Marvel may end Phase 7 on a massive commercial note.

A More Focused MCU May Be Exactly What Fans Want

If these reports prove accurate, Marvel may be preparing a leaner and smarter phase than what fans have seen in recent years. That does not mean a smaller ambition. It may just mean more selective planning.

Five films over two years would give each release more room to breathe and matter. After years of nonstop expansion, that could be one of the best things Marvel can do for itself.

Nothing is locked in yet, but the shape of the next chapter is getting easier to see. And for the MCU, that may be the first real sign that another major shift is already on the way.
