Since 2008, fans have been obsessed with the stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios brought heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, and the Incredible Hulk to life in a whole new way. Marvel films are so beloved by fans that they have become some of the most successful films of all time. Of the top ten highest-grossing films, three of them are Marvel movies — The Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Marvel has also produced a string of successful shows for Disney+, including Loki, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and WandaVision.
Marvel Studios knows how to do a lot of things very well. One of those is keeping secrets. Marvel is one of those studios that hides everything until the movie is released in theaters. Then, there are fans that will spoil things (Pro-tip: don’t do that!). With all the big-name actors and huge film twists, many may be wondering just how much Marvel does to keep their secrets. The answer is A LOT.
Iconic actor Samuel L. Jackson has portrayed Nick Fury — the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and founder of the Avengers. Jackson’s Fury has appeared in eleven Marvel films and is currently the star of Marvel’s newest Disney+ show, Secret Invasion. Jackson recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about his new show, and the topic of Marvel’s secrecy came up. The actor recalled one time when someone tried to film something by drone, and Marvel’s people shot the drone out of the sky.
“They shot one down,” Jackson says. “And they followed one back to where the dude was. They found him and, yeah, they got him.”
This is not the first time that Jackson has seen Marvel’s desire for secrecy in action. Back when he was preparing to star in The Avengers, someone at Marvel printed out a copy of Jackson’s script — complete with his watermark — and posted it for sale on eBay. Jackson was filming a movie in Canada, and Marvel had people fly to Canada. They set up a fake buy of the script, but the person never showed up.
It had been printed in the production office… They found out who it was, dude quit, left the country. They set up a fake buy for the script, dude didn’t show up. It was crazy.
This year, Marvel is planning to release 2 more movies — The Marvels and Deadpool 3 — along with Loki season 2 and Echo season 1. Captain America: Brave New World will be released next summer. And we know that, with the lengths Marvel will go to, we won’t be getting any spoilers unless Marvel says so.
