Michael Strahan, beloved Good Morning America anchor and Fox NFL Sunday analyst, has recently found himself at the center of controversy following an incident during a special Veterans Day broadcast. The pre-game show, aired live from San Diego Naval Base, featured Strahan alongside his co-hosts honoring veterans.
While most presenters placed their hands over their hearts during the National Anthem, Strahan stood at attention with his hands clasped in front of him—a gesture that sparked heated debate online.

The reaction was swift and polarizing. Conservative commentator Todd Starnes took to social media, accusing Strahan of disrespecting the military. In a tweet, Starnes wrote:
Michael Strahan disrespected the military during a Veterans Day pre-game show on @NFLonFOX. The great irony is Strahan on a ship surrounded by men and women who would willingly sacrifice their lives to protect his freedom. So, his behavior is not just repugnant, it’s downright cowardly.

Starnes’ comments ignited a firestorm, with many followers echoing his sentiments and demanding accountability. However, for every critic, there was a staunch defender of Strahan’s actions.
Others on social media were quick to rally behind Strahan, pointing out his strong ties to the military. Joe Pompliano tweeted:
Michael Strahan’s dad served in the Army for 23 years. He grew up on a US Army base in Germany and has given a ton of money to veteran charities. He’s standing quietly at attention. We need to stop getting so upset at every little thing.

The backlash also saw users digging up photos of former President Donald Trump during similar instances where his hand was not over his heart during the anthem, further fueling online debates about double standards.
Another user, with the handle Wu Tang is for the Children, chimed in with a pointed critique of the criticism:
For the MAGAs crying out here that Michael Strahan ‘disrespected’ the military during the anthem on the FOX pregame show the other day 🙄

As the controversy grew, reporters attempted to confront Strahan outside his New York City home. A video published by the Daily Mail captured Strahan losing his temper, confiscating a reporter’s phone, and throwing it into nearby bushes. Strahan later addressed the incident on social media, expressing regret for his actions.
“I’m not proud of how I handled that situation,” he said. “But I won’t tolerate being ambushed at my home. My privacy matters too.”
