It’s been a busy week at the Walt Disney Company. After Disney CEO Bob Iger defeated activist investor Nelson Peltz, Disney announced a flurry of activity to show investors that changes were coming.
Most of the early announcements involved changes to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Disney also announced updates to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT and new attractions for Disneyland Forward.

However, Disney did not announce significant changes and release dates for some of its most anticipated films until late Friday. Disney announced release dates for Toy Story 5, The Mandalorian and Grogu: A Star Wars Story, and Tron Ares. Disney also announced a delay for the live-action Moana starring Dwayne Johnson. So, let’s get into the news.
New Release Dates
Among the new releases, Tron Ares will be the first to hit theaters. Disney announced that the third installment of the Tron series will hit theaters on October 10, 2025. The newest Tron will star Jared Leto.
Disney also changed its Star Wars release schedule, which may concern fans. Initially, the Star Wars film The Mandalorian and Grogu was set to be the first new Star Wars film on the release calendar. Disney slightly changed the name, calling it “untitled Star Wars” film.
Insiders still believe that the Jon Favreau film is still in line for that release date. It will hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
Disney made a similar change to Toy Story 5. It is now listed on the release calendar as “untitled Pixar film.” Again, this release date will belong to Toy Story 5. The fifth installment of the Pixar franchise will hit theaters on June 19, 2026.
‘Moana’ Release Date Delayed
In February, Disney CEO Bob Iger dropped a surprise bombshell that Disney would release Moana 2 (2024) later this year. That announcement put the future of the live-action Moana into question. And now, Disney has delayed the release of the Dwayne Johnson film.
Disney’s next live-action film was initially set for release on June 27, 2025. It is now pushed back to July 10, 2026.
Disney was also scheduled to release a new Walt Disney Animation Studios film on July 10, 2026. That untitled film has been removed from the release schedule.
With these release announcements, we now have more clarity about Disney’s schedule for the next three years.
