Multiple Closures Hit EPCOT’s World Showcase as Germany Location Transformed

Guests planning a visit to EPCOT's Germany Pavilion should expect a different experience than usual, as Disney's ongoing refurbishment has expanded once again with another temporary closure affecting the popular World Showcase destination.

Located between the Italy and China pavilions, Germany has been part of EPCOT since the park debuted in 1982. Inspired by a picturesque German town, the area is home to Biergarten Restaurant alongside several themed shops selling imported merchandise, seasonal décor, collectibles, and traditional German gifts. Stein Haus remains one of the pavilion's best-known shopping locations, offering everything from decorative steins to ornaments and glassware.

Construction first arrived outside Stein Haus several weeks ago, bringing rolling planters, scaffolding, scrim, and construction walls to portions of the building. Since then, work has expanded to cover the second-floor balcony, the exterior staircase, and even the pavilion's familiar “Stein Haus” signage.

Guests have still been able to access the store through alternate entrances, including the nearby Weinkeller doorway, though Disney has yet to explain exactly what improvements are being made or when they will be complete.

The refurbishment has also affected neighboring retail locations. Earlier this week, Disney unexpectedly closed both Der Teddybar and Volkskunst, with construction barriers preventing guests from entering the connected shops. Those closures have temporarily reduced the pavilion's shopping offerings while work progresses.

The latest operational change impacts guest facilities rather than merchandise. Reports indicate that the Germany Pavilion restrooms have now closed for refurbishment, with signage directing visitors to alternate restroom locations elsewhere in EPCOT. Combined with the ongoing retail construction, the updates mean guests will encounter a pavilion operating with several temporary limitations.

The work forms part of Disney's continuing maintenance across EPCOT. Although the resort completed the park's extensive transformation with the addition of World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature, refurbishment projects have continued throughout World Showcase as Disney refreshes its original pavilions.

Public records suggest the Germany project will remain active well into next year. Disney recently amended a Notice of Commencement for general construction at 1750 Avenue of the Stars, an address connected to EPCOT. The revised filing identifies MSG Legacy, Inc., operating as RSS Roofing Services and Solutions Florida, as the contractor and extends the notice through January 29, 2027, unless construction concludes sooner or another amendment is filed.

While the permit does not specify the exact nature of the refurbishment, Notices of Commencement are required before construction can move forward in Florida and often provide an indication that projects remain active. The updated filing arrives as construction has spread across additional areas of the Germany Pavilion, and more guest-facing locations have temporarily closed.

Given RSS Roofing Services and Solutions Florida's expertise in roofing and exterior building projects, the permit aligns with the exterior work currently visible throughout the pavilion. Disney has not announced plans for a complete redesign, and there is currently no evidence pointing to a significant reimagining.

Instead, the ongoing effort appears focused on preserving the appearance and infrastructure of one of EPCOT's original World Showcase destinations while keeping as much of the pavilion available to guests as possible.
