Disney fans are once again piecing together clues about the company’s next move.
Recent drone activity in California has ignited speculation, with many suggesting the experiments are not just technical trials but early rehearsals for something much larger.

The company has quietly used off-site locations for years to refine entertainment technology away from crowded theme parks.
These private settings allow Disney to test effects and aerial displays without distraction, often providing the first glimpse of innovations that later appear on the global stage.

In the past week, coordinated drone flights have drawn particular attention. Some formations created recognizable figures from Aladdin and Moana, with the latter previously shown in concept art for the lake’s nighttime show.
A Park in Transition
Speculation has focused on Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris, which is undergoing the largest transformation in its history.

Once considered one of Disney’s least ambitious parks, the resort is being reshaped into Disney Adventure World, anchored by new themed areas, immersive lands, and large-scale attractions.
The most visible part of this expansion is the construction of a central lake. Designed as a performance space, it has the potential to include advanced systems for fountains, lighting, projections, and pyrotechnics. It was always intended to host major entertainment, making it a natural candidate for the debut of drone technology.
Other additions are also redefining the park. The Avengers Campus area opened several years ago with rides and character experiences centered on Marvel superheroes. A Frozen-themed land is currently under construction and will open in spring 2026, promising a fully realized Arendelle with a new boat ride. Together, these projects represent a dramatic shift for a park once criticized for lacking identity.

Given this scale of investment, many fans believe a show to unify the new spaces is inevitable. The lake will provide both a physical and symbolic centerpiece. A nighttime spectacular staged there would tie together the park’s offerings and give guests a reason to stay into the evening.
A Possible New Version of Fantasmic!
Fans are increasingly convinced that the lake will host a new version of Fantasmic!, with drones stepping in to do the heavy lifting instead of animatronics (Disneyland's Fantasmic! tapped out of the animatronic dragon game post-dragon fire).

The long-running Fantasmic! spectacular has been a defining experience at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, combining live performers, music, projections, and pyrotechnics into one of Disney’s most ambitious productions. Bringing it to Paris would extend the show’s legacy to Europe.
However, expectations are for a reinvention, not a replica. Incorporating drones would allow Disney to reimagine key scenes with imagery in the sky, creating effects beyond what water projections and fireworks can achieve. This flexibility would also help the park adapt to Paris’s unpredictable weather conditions.
Do you think Disneyland Paris should receive its own version of Fantasmic!?
