The Jurassic Park franchise may be closer than ever to realizing one of its most infamous unused ideas: human-dinosaur hybrids. Once conceived for an early draft of Jurassic Park 4 in the early 2000s, the concept—involving militarized human-raptor creatures—was completely abandoned before the project ultimately evolved into Jurassic World (2015).

But across the Jurassic World trilogy, the series has steadily moved toward more outlandish genetic manipulation. Jurassic World (2015) introduced the Indominus Rex, a hybrid engineered from multiple species. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) followed with the Indoraptor, described as being made from “the two most dangerous creatures that ever walked the Earth,” while also introducing human cloning through Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon). Jurassic World Dominion (2022) expanded the stakes to a global level.

Then came Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), which pushed the concept further. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), the film stars Scarlett Johansson (Zora Bennett), Jonathan Bailey (Dr. Henry Loomis), and Mahershala Ali (Duncan Kincaid). Set on the isolated InGen island Ile Saint-Hubert, it features mutant dinosaurs like the Distortus Rex and Mutadons.
The film earned $869.1 million worldwide, reinforcing the franchise’s box-office pull, even as reviews highlighted its reliance on familiar beats and increasingly over-the-top ideas.

Its ending, however, may prove pivotal. Zora, Kincaid, Henry, and the Delgado family escape the island with a mutated Aquilops named Dolores, along with DNA connected to potential medical applications. Could the dinosaur or the genetic material end up creating human-dinosaur hybrids somewhere down the line?
Recently, entertainment industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that a follow-up is in development, with production eyed for the fall and a possible July 2028 release. Gareth Edwards and Scarlett Johansson are reportedly in talks to return, though Universal Pictures has yet to make any sort of announcement regarding a new Jurassic World film.
