Disney has filed another construction permit tied to the upcoming Muppets re-theme of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, and this one may signal significant physical changes to the attraction.
The high-speed coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is scheduled to close on March 2 and reopen in summer 2026 with a new Muppets storyline. While Disney has confirmed the creative shift, the newly filed permit suggests that structural updates may be part of the plan.

Why This Permit Matters
The permit is categorized under general construction, but the contractor listed tells a more detailed story. Disney has contracted Coastal Steel, a firm that specializes in steel fabrication and erection services.
That detail immediately suggests the project involves structural components. Steel contractors typically handle frameworks, support systems, and reinforced installations. Their involvement implies that Disney may be adding or modifying substantial elements inside the attraction.
This is not the first permit associated with the Muppets takeover, but it may be the clearest sign yet that the re-theme will involve more than cosmetic updates.
Beyond a Character Overlay
Disney has already confirmed that the ride will maintain its recording studio concept in the pre-show. That continuity suggests the overall ride layout, including the launch and coaster track, is likely remaining intact.
However, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster relies heavily on themed staging inside its enclosed show building. Large scenic elements, architectural pieces, and immersive show environments define much of the ride’s atmosphere. Introducing a new storyline centered on the Muppets could require entirely new structural set pieces.
Steel fabrication may support new scene transitions, oversized props, or enhanced show effects. It could also involve modifications to accommodate updated technology, including lighting rigs, projection systems, or mechanical components.
While Disney has not publicly outlined those changes, the permit indicates the scope extends deeper than swapping audio tracks and character figures.

A Rapid Construction Timeline
The re-theme arrives amid a broader transformation of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With Muppets Courtyard closing to make way for a Monsters, Inc. land and Animation Courtyard shifting into The Magic of Disney Animation, the park is reshaping its identity.
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster plays a key role in preserving the Muppets’ presence in the park. By relocating the franchise to an existing thrill ride footprint, Disney maintains character representation while continuing its expansion plans elsewhere.
The timeline remains ambitious. A March closure followed by a summer 2026 reopening leaves only a few months for demolition, structural modifications, scenic installation, testing, and reopening preparations. That pace suggests the creative vision and construction plans have been carefully coordinated well in advance.
Guests visiting the park during construction may not see much inside the show building, but exterior work or equipment staging could offer hints about the scale of the project.
At this stage, Disney has kept specific details under wraps. Still, the involvement of a structural steel contractor strongly suggests that the Muppets version of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster will feel noticeably different when it reopens.
If this permit is any indication, the changes will be structural, visible, and designed to support a fully realized new chapter for one of Hollywood Studios’ most recognizable attractions.
