It’s no secret that one of the most successful franchises in history is Star Wars. From the time the first film — Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope — came out in 1977, fans haven’t been able to get enough of Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo, Chewbacca, and everyone else in the Star Wars universe. The franchise is so popular that there are entire fan conventions devoted to it. This past week, Walt Disney Imagineering headed to London, England, for the Star Wars Celebration 2023. While there, they shared a ton of amazing news.
One of the announcements had to do with one of the most iconic attractions in Disneyland, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disneyland Paris. That attraction is Star Tours. Star Tours opened at Disneyland in 1987, Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 1989, and in Disneyland Paris in 1992. Each of those original attractions closed and made way for new stories with Star Tours: The Adventure Continues. Captain R3X was replaced by C3PO, and new scenes were added.
Now, more changes are on the way for the fun attraction.
Here’s more on the thrilling news, courtesy of Disney Parks Blog:
In 2024, we’re going to add more stories and characters to Star Tours at three of our destinations around the world – Disneyland park in California, Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, and Disneyland Paris in France. Since it debuted at Disneyland in 1987 as the first Star Wars attraction in a Disney park, Star Tours has traveled to new places as this galaxy of stories expanded. We’re looking forward to continuing that tradition next year with all new adventures … but I can’t reveal just where we’re going yet – or those we may meet along the way – because … well … some surprises are best experienced as part of the upcoming Star Wars content also announced this weekend. Here’s hoping C-3PO’s piloting skills have improved!
At this time, Disney has not said what new scenes will be added. However, it is not so far out to think that Guests may be able to take a ride on Star Tours and be visited by Grogu (AKA Baby Yoda) and the Mandalorian. Disney also has other hit Star Wars shows like The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, and Obi-Wan Kenobi that they can choose to pull scenes from.
The new scenes coming to Star Tours in Disneyland Park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disneyland Paris was not the only exciting news shared at the massive Star Wars. It was also announced that star Daisy Ridley — who plays Rey — will be returning. Three more Star Wars movies are being filmed. Those will take place 15 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
