New Star Wars Virtual Reality Experience Coming Soon to Disney Springs

Disney Springs offers Guests visiting Walt Disney World shopping, dining, and entertainment outside of Disney’s theme parks, water parks, and resorts. With the permanent closure of the NBA Experience in the West Side neighborhood of Disney’s shopping, dining, and entertainment complex, the area has been in need of an additional attraction for out of town Guests and locals alike. Thankfully, Disney just announced that a brand new Star Wars virtual reality experience will be coming soon to the space!

The Disney Parks Blog has confirmed that Meta Quest, ILMxLAB, the award-winning immersive entertainment student under the Lucasfilm umbrella will be opening their Meta Quest 2 preview of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge to Disney Springs West Side in the former pro-basketball attraction space.

The new virtual reality attraction is currently set to operate from May 2, 2022, to July 21, 2022, with no confirmation so far on whether or not the event will be extended beyond those dates so far. The experience will give Guests a hands-on preview that portrays a shortened take on ILMxLAB’s full virtual reality experience called “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.”

While in the virtual reality portion of the new experience, Guests will see Batuu in an entirely new way thanks to the Quest 2 headset. When wearing it, Guests will see 360-degree views of Batuu, particularly more remote areas of the planet far on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost. (Of course, you can explore Batuu in person at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this experience, however, goes to more distanced areas of the planet that you may not see in the park.)

The storyline in “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge” introduces visitors to new characters alongside favorite characters from the latest Star Wars trilogy. The full experience can be completed in two parts, with part one letting Guests take on the position of a droid repair technician who works near the Outer Rim, and the second party coming as an expansion that goes deeper into the Star Wars universe.

The new experience will be offered daily in Disney Springs from 12:00 pm-10:00 pm for a limited time, and Guests who participate will be considered for giveaways and will have the chance to purchase a Meta Quest 2 right onsite. Special for May 4, Guests can even receive a poster showing the Guavian Death Gang cell led by Tara Rashin, who operates on Batuu.
