New Test Track Revealed Overnight in Disney World Update

Change is rolling in fast at Walt Disney World Resort, and EPCOT’s Test Track is leading the way with a complete reimagining that blends nostalgic charm with contemporary thrills. This fresh take on the beloved attraction, inspired by the original World of Motion, is scheduled to reopen in late summer 2025 within World Discovery.

The transformation is the result of an ongoing collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and General Motors. Disney Parks Blog teased, “Walt Disney Imagineering has been working with General Motors on an all-new storyline—you’ll want to be all buckled in for an adventure.” And for eagle-eyed guests, new test vehicles may even be spotted on the track earlier in the year.

Recently, Imagineering shared a closer look at the project’s progress. To celebrate Women in Construction Week in March 2025, Imagineering posted a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram spotlighting Carleigh, a Project Engineer. She offered insight into her daily work on the project, and viewers got a sneak peek at the attraction’s completely stripped-down queue.

As construction continues, a striking new Test Track marquee has now taken its place at the attraction entrance. Shared by Walt Disney Imagineering’s official Instagram, the updated signage features a luminous new logo that complements the streamlined building design—capturing the attraction’s forward-facing spirit in both daylight and nighttime views.

The return of Test Track was first announced during D23 Expo 2024, where Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared updates on the many projects unfolding across Disney parks. “Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places,” he said. “Everything we’re going to share with you is in active development. Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving.”

Test Track will likely offer Lightning Lane access when it reopens, similar to recent shifts in other high-demand attractions. Earlier this year, EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Magic Kingdom’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure moved away from the virtual queue system in favor of traditional standby and Lightning Lane options. On its first day without a virtual queue, Cosmic Rewind saw wait times reach nearly three hours.

But Test Track is just one piece of the evolving picture at Walt Disney World in 2025. Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed indefinitely as work begins on the “Beyond Big Thunder” expansion. Meanwhile, a new Zootopia experience will replace It’s Tough to be a Bug! at Disney’s Animal Kingdom later this year.

With construction visible across nearly every corner of the resort, some guests are choosing to shift their visits—or explore new offerings like Universal Orlando Resort’s Epic Universe, which opened on May 22.

Still, for fans who cherish EPCOT’s legacy of innovation, the new Test Track is shaping up to be a can’t-miss addition. As Disney Parks Blog described: “Get ready to feel the thrill of the open road, the wind in your hair, and nothing but adventure ahead! Test Track presented by General Motors is making its return lap late summer 2025.”

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
