The Walt Disney Company owns a little bit of everything. Either through its own design or through purchases, Disney owns a good portion of the media industry.
In the past 20 years, mostly under current CEO Bob Iger, the Walt Disney Company went on a spending spree, buying up competitors including Pixar, Marvel Studios, Hulu, and 20th Century Fox Studios. But one of the side effects of buying so much is that you own everything the company owns, including assets you don’t want.

The Walt Disney Company is learning this lesson the hard way. Click Orlando did a deep dive into the website paranoia.com and found that, for some reason, it redirects users to Disney’s website.
That in and of itself isn’t that weird, but a closer look at the creepy website shows that it was initially set up to allow users to create their own content, similar to an early form of social media. But much like modern social media, the site immediately devolved into the worst of humanity.
And now, not only is Disney-owned ABC listed as the owner of a website that was known for pages that depicted cannibalism, drug use, prostitution, and sexual content, but the site now links back to Disney.

So, how did this happen?
The domain name dates back to 1994. The domain name was initially owned by @KevinTX, and he wanted to create an open space for users to create their own pop culture content. At first, it was innocent enough, but like most social media, things got ugly.
The website was shut down in 1999, and if you clicked on it, you were directed to a French website. So, if that was the end of Paranoia.com, how does this domain name belong to Disney?
In 2000, 20th Century Fox was developing a game show called Paranoia for the Family Fox Channel. A year later, Disney purchased the Family Fox Channel and renamed it ABC Family.
The show Paranoia, never actually aired, but Disney’s purchase bought them the right to show and its website.
It seems innocent enough, but now Disney is making news for owning a creepy link that sends visitors to Disney’s website. Perhaps when Disney is considering purchasing future bands, it should look into what else it holds or, at the very least, shut down this creepy link.
After all, look at what happened to Mickey Mouse when he entered the public domain and became unrecognizable to every Disney fan. Surely, the Walt Disney Company doesn’t want to see people clicking on any more creepy websites.
