For nearly three years, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has been one of EPCOT’s most sought-after attractions, and getting a spot in its virtual queue was a challenge.
Some guests cheered when Disney announced that the virtual queue would be removed in favor of a standby line starting February 25.

However, now that the change is almost here, reality is setting in—this switch could mean some of the longest waits EPCOT has ever seen.
Disney Prepares for Crowds with an Extended Queue
With the removal of the virtual queue, Disney has been expanding the standby line to accommodate the expected rush. New queue barriers and umbrellas have appeared outside the attraction, making it clear that guests will be waiting well beyond the indoor queue area.
This means more time standing in the elements, whether it’s under the blazing Florida sun or dealing with unexpected rain showers. For those who have enjoyed the ability to reserve a boarding group and go about their day, this will be a significant adjustment.

Changes Inside the Ride Queue
EPCOT isn’t just making changes outside—the queue inside Cosmic Rewind is also being adjusted. One of the most frustrating parts of the experience has been the moment after the teleportation pre-show, where guests merge from a wide-open space into a much narrower line.
To reduce crowding, Disney has installed new switchbacks and barriers, creating a more structured path to the loading area. This should prevent the free-for-all rush that has been a common complaint among riders.

What Guests Need to Know Before Lining Up
Now that standby is the only option for those not purchasing Lightning Lane, guests should be prepared for significantly longer waits than before. Here are a few tips to make the experience smoother:
- Expect to wait at least 90 minutes – With no virtual queue to cap the number of guests, lines could stretch far beyond what was previously seen.
- Be ready for outdoor conditions – Some of the queue is now outside, so sunscreen, water, and hats are highly recommended.
- Use Lightning Lane if you don’t want to wait – Disney will still offer Individual Lightning Lane purchases, though availability may be limited.
- Check wait times throughout the day – The ride may have shorter lines later in the evening.
The shift to a standby queue is a major change, and while some guests will appreciate not having to compete for a virtual queue spot, the reality is that waiting for Cosmic Rewind is about to become a much bigger part of the experience. Whether this is an improvement or a hassle depends on your patience level—and how long you’re willing to stand in line for one of EPCOT’s biggest attractions.
