Many Disney fans are already familiar with the tensions that are currently being heightened between the Walt Disney Company and the Republican Party after Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis butted heads over the Parental Rights in Education Bill. Now that the conflict continues to escalate, President Biden has shared his own take on the matter!

Walt Disney World Resort is located within the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a special district that essentially has allowed Disney to self-govern for decades. Governor DeSantis has now repealed the special rights that Disney had in the Reedy Creek Improvement District, and there are also attempts being made to theoretically threaten Disney’s airspace rights as well as copyright protection for characters like Mickey Mouse.

Disney has gained praise from some Disney fans for its liberal approach (which Governor DeSantis has described as “woke”) while alienating other Disney fans in the midst of the conflict between Disney World and Republicans. Disney has also upset viewers and Guests recently by labeling some of its classic Disney characters as “problematic” and editing some old content due to offensive lines.

During a recent Democratic National Committee fundraiser, President Biden directly acknowledged the conflict.
“Did you ever think we’d be in a position in the year 2022 – we’d be talking about banning books in schools?” he said, presumably referring to the Florida bill. “What’s going to happen to a gay child, an L[G]BTQ child in school?” he added. “I mean, this thing. It’s one thing to take on Disney World. They’re going to storm Cinderella’s Castle before this is over. If I told you these things, I think you’d think I was crazy. You may think I’m crazy anyway, but…”
Whether or not Walt Disney World Resort would actually be stormed by Republicans is debatable, but President Biden has certainly provided a disturbing visual for Disney fans who have been following the events in Florida!
