Recently, we at Disney Fanatic reported that the “Disney Prime” membership was going the way of the dodo. This would have essentially combined the many different Disney products, from the Disney+ streaming platform to the MyDisneyExperience app, into one lump membership. While this seems like an efficient plan to better the Disney fan experience–in and out of the Parks–it divided Disney fans for its privacy issues. The Walt Disney Company already requires so much information from its customers, specifically fingerprint scans of Guests visiting Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort, but this optimized Disney membership would utilize all of the data they have on each Guest to provide an eerily personalized experience. While many people jumped at the idea of having the corporation have enough information to automatically personalize everything, many others were thrown off by the lack of control that they had over how Disney tracked their movements online, what they bought from shopDisney, watched on Disney+, or even what rides they experienced via Genie+ Lightning Lane.

This system was scrapped alongside the Chapek-Era Disney Metaverse project, officially called “Next Generation Storytelling.” Former CEO Bob Chapek often spoke about his determination to bring a personalized Disney Parks experience to would-be Guests without ever requiring them to leave their homes. Both now-canceled divisions seemed to be driving the Company in that direction. Now that Bob Iger is back in charge, those dreams of the future will be left in the past–at least, for now.

We at Disney Fanatic will continue to update our readers on the Disney layoffs and restructuring as more developments come to light.
