Note: An earlier version of this article noted the OP was a Disney/ESPN employee, though new context offers that he did not work for ESPN in reality. Additionally, the OP’s X account has also been suspended.
Despite Disney’s care for its image, one of its reported employees recently made some shocking statements online, with allegedly no consequence.
Any Disney fan is well-versed in how careful the Mouse House is about how it appears to the public. In fact, one of the big reasons that the entire fight in Florida even began with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is because former Disney CEO Bob Chapek was reportedly pressured into standing up against the law passed by the Florida Governor.
Disney has even been known to part ways with child actors and even adults who have become embroiled in scandal (think Johnny Depp or Dan Benson’s constant fear of being fired). But do they have different rules for their corporate employees?
Man Claiming to Be ESPN Employee Makes Comments About Slavery Being “Good to Go”
On January 20, 2024, a fan reposted a screenshot of a conversation between a man who claimed to be a camera operator for ESPN, FOX Sports, and NBC Sports.
In the screenshot, the man commented on a video where Nikki Haley says America “has never been a racist country,” writing, “The funny thing about slavery nobody talks about. A lot of them wanted to come here. It was better than their homeland situation. But you know that wouldn’t work for the narrative. So we got to leave that part out.”
Many were shocked at the commenter’s statements and and immediately tagged Disney to alert them to these comments, and called out the racism in them.

However, the OP was quite blasé and unconcerned, writing back to people who reported him for racism to Disney, NBC News, or Fox News, replying, “You’re like the 80th person to report me. They don’t read this stuff. They don’t care.”
This dude works for y’all, ya know, since you own ESPN and all. Just wondered if y’all really don’t care what he’s saying here. https://t.co/MaCKh7h6WD pic.twitter.com/G461bFtoRE

It’s been a few days since the incident happened, and as of Saturday, January 20, 2024, the OP posted a follow-up explaining that not only had he not been fired, but he, in fact, landed a new job.
He commented, “Damn. Got fired today. Oh man, oh wait nope. Just another job. Because I didn’t lie about anything. People just like to believe their stories and don’t like to be questioned.”

It’s certainly surprising to hear someone who claimed to be associated with Disney be so blasé about the situation, considering Disney’s past moves with properties that have been interpreted to be racist, for example, Splash Mountain or Song of the South (1946) being practically erased from existence due to its “racist stereotypes” (Something Whoopi Goldberg has spoken out about).

Disney Fanatic has reached out to The Walt Disney Company for a statement on the matter, but, as of the publishing of this article, there has been no comment.
Further, in another recent update, the OP’s X account has also been suspended.
