If you could live at any ride or attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort or the Disneyland Resort, which one would it be? You’d have to consider several factors, including music, which automatically eliminates “it’s a small world.”
Realistically speaking, there is only one attraction at either Walt Disney Resort that could easily be transformed into a home: Disney’s Haunted Mansion. It’s one of the only Disney World or Disneyland attractions that already looks like a house, and outside of the occasional hitchhiking ghost, there’s not much that needs to be done to make it livable.
Now, for the first time, and possibly only time, you can purchase Disney’s Haunted Mansion and turn it into your dream home for the low price of $2.2 million. Well, it’s not exactly Disney’s Haunted Mansion, but it’s as close as anyone can get without actually living in one of the theme parks.
The house in Duluth, Georgia, is an exact replica of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion that sits in New Orleans Square. The original builder, Mark Hurt, used Disney’s blueprints to copy the actual exterior dimensions and even used that same foundry that Disney employed for the metal work on the outside.
Hurt’s father worked at Disney World during the construction of EPCOT, and he was hooked. He started a company that builds electronic components for museums, trade shows, and theme parks.
The house was built in 1996 and has six bedrooms and six bathrooms over its nearly 11,000 square feet. It has a massive unfinished basement that Hurt had hoped to turn into a movie theater, but he never got around to it. He was even able to incorporate some magical Disney touches into the home, including a ghost that comes out of the faucet in one of the bathrooms.
Hurt sold the house in 2013 to embark on another project. He wanted to create a home in Hawaii based on Disneyland’s Grand California Hotel.
Based on the original Haunted Mansion, the Duluth home has become famous around town. Of course, it would be perfect for a Halloween Party, but it is also decorated for the Holidays. However, because it is located in a gated community, a Disney fan can’t walk up and take their photo with the house.
So, if you are a true Disney Fan or just have an overwhelming desire to live in the original Haunted Mansion, you can check out the listing here. But remember, just like in the movie, the ghosts may follow you home.
