Guests Slam Disney After Scrapping Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon “Spin”

A small change has infuriated Disneyland fans.

Disney has changed plenty of classic attractions over the years. Most recently, it shuttered Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom Park to give both attractions a revamp, with the latter officially reopening tomorrow.

But revamping an attraction isn't always popular with parkgoers.

Guests Say Signature Feature No Longer Works the Same

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin reopened after refurbishment inside Mickey’s Toontown, but guests say the ride’s defining feature has been scaled back.

Since opening in 1994, the attraction has stood out for its interactive spinning mechanic. Riders could turn a steering wheel to control how much their vehicle rotated as they moved through scenes inspired by Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).

Now, multiple visitors report that vehicles spin automatically in certain sections, with less direct control from riders.

“The spinning aspect has been removed from the attraction with little fanfare,” one X, formerly known as Twitter, user wrote. “The vehicle now ‘auto spins’ in certain sections of track. It was a surprise to guests and everyone looked confused as the wheel is still present.”

Guests also said instructions explaining the spinning feature appear to be missing, making the change harder to understand once the ride begins.

Reaction has been immediate online, with many pointing to the loss of interactivity.

“This doesn’t make any sense,” one guest wrote. “The spinning is what made this ride stand out from all the other dark rides.”

Another added, “It’s absolutely a huge L and one of the worst decisions they’ve made for a ride lately.”

Without full control, some riders say the experience now feels closer to a standard dark ride.

Change Fuels Frustration — and Speculation

The response has gone beyond complaints, with some guests questioning what the update could mean for the ride’s future.

“There’s a rumor going around that they want to shut this ride down, so this sort of adds to that theory in order to make it less popular and give them a reason to close it,” one Reddit user wrote.

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin has already seen notable updates in recent years. In 2021, Disney changed Jessica Rabbit’s role, removing her original kidnapping storyline and presenting her as a private investigator tracking the weasels.

That update altered the narrative but kept the core ride system intact. This latest change directly affects how guests interact with the attraction.

Some visitors said the adjustment may be linked to long-standing maintenance issues.

“Although it is a loss for the interactive element, half of the vehicles barely spun at all,” one X user wrote. “I wish they could have been maintained better.”

Disney has not publicly commented on the update, and it remains unclear whether the change is permanent.
