Recently, rumors that the director of the upcoming Star Wars movie, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who has been slammed for being a “misandrist” and “lunatic,” was fired by Lucasfilm/Disney. But is this yet another fabrication?
Some Star Wars fans have not been thrilled with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The director went viral earlier this month for comments that she made, which were attributed to the upcoming Star Wars project and were considered biased against men, angered many fans who labeled the upcoming film a failure before it even started.

Rumors Abound that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Was Fired
In large part because of the frustration that fans had with Obaid-Chinoy, some leaned into a rumor that was making the rounds that she was fired from her role as director for the upcoming movie.
The rumor apparently originated from YouTuber Mike Zeroh, who alleged Lucasfilm decided to “fire and remove” the director “in the wake of the Star Wars movie backlash.”
The video, as The Direct reported, also claimed Obaid-Chinoy was removed from additional Lucasfilm and Disney+ projects.

Is the Rumor True?
Very simply, no, it is not!
As of the writing of this article, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still very much a part of the Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars project and will spearhead the next movie.
On the subject of directing the Star Wars film, she has previously commented, “I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special. And we’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”
However, as Star Wars fans would be aware, with the recent layoffs at Disney and the company’s ability to immediately distance themselves from an actor (think like with Johnny Depp), if Obaid-Chinoy ever became too controversial a figure, the company would not hesitate to part ways with her for the Star Wars film.
In fact, one figure that some fans are still surprised is a part of Lucasfilm is Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Is Kathleen Kennedy still part of Lucasfilm?
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has been held responsible for the financial failure of Star Wars: Han Solo, and even Indiana Jones. Many fans feel like her decisions have cost Disney millions of dollars.
However, it’s worth noting she’s also made the studio a lot of money, think The Mandalorian, Rogue One, Andor, Tales of the Jedi. Further, Kennedey’s contract is expiring in 2024, so it will be interesting to see whether Disney chooses to retain her contract or draw it to a close.
Ultimately, Obaid-Chinoy may have made waves for some previous comments, but until she becomes truly controversial, she’s likely sticking around.
