Tom Holland first suited up as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016), and over the course of Jon Watts’ trilogy, audiences watched Peter Parker evolve from a Queens teen juggling homework and heroics in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) to a young man confronting grief in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). That evolution reached its dramatic peak in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where Holland’s Peter joined forces with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s versions in a global box office juggernaut.
Though Holland once expressed a desire to pass the mask to Miles Morales before age 30, he’ll be right at that point when Spider-Man 4 hits theaters on July 31, 2026. The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

After the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Holland told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the movie was officially moving forward. Marvel and Sony confirmed its title as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, positioned just months before Avengers: Doomsday (2026) from Joe and Anthony Russo, featuring Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Victor Von Doom alongside an ensemble of heroes and villains.
Story specifics remain a mystery, but Watts has said his trilogy serves as a reimagined, extended origin. Producer Amy Pascal told Deadline the sequel will directly confront Peter’s sacrifice in erasing his identity.
“Well, we have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker, and he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard,” Pascal said. “So that's what the movie's about… There's room to grow.”

Zendaya’s MJ will return, though in a more limited capacity. Industry insider Jeff Sneider reported her role will be “severely reduced” because of scheduling for Euphoria Season 3, Dune 3, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which also stars Holland.
This opens the stage for other classic Spider-Man characters to appear. Rumors suggest Gwen Stacy could be involved, fueled by the working title “Blue Oasis,” which fans connect to Jeph Loeb’s “Spider-Man: Blue” (2002).
“‘Spider-Man: Blue' was a comic written by Jeph Loeb in 2002 that ran for six issues. The story is set on Valentine’s Day and presents a Spider-Man who feels ‘blue' or depressed as he sits atop the Brooklyn Bridge,” The Cosmic Circus noted. “The story retells how Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy first met and fell in love in a beautifully told story that melts even the coldest of hearts.”

The casting spotlight then turned to Sadie Sink of Stranger Things. As Deadline revealed, she will appear in Spider-Man 4. While previously linked to the MCU’s eventual X-Men reboot as Jean Grey, reports suggested she may play a Multiversal Mary Jane Watson instead.
“[Jeff] Sneider, if you remember, was the first to break the story that Sink was the frontrunner for Jean Grey in Marvel Studios' X-Men and admits to being surprised that Sink was announced for Spider-Man 4 instead of the mutant reboot, but says he heard from his sources last night that Sink will likely be playing Watson, not Jean Grey,” Comic Book Movie reported.

Sink’s involvement is confirmed, but her exact role has not been disclosed. A newer report hints she could be taking on an entirely different part.
“It's said that “Annabelle Adams” is being used as a possible codename for Sink's Spider-Man: Brand New Day character, though the question mark seems to suggest that it may be who she's actually playing,” Comic Book Movie reported.
Annabelle Adams appears in “Scarlet Spider Vol. 2,” first introduced as a bartender and singer at Houston’s Four Seasons Hotel, where Kaine Parker—the Scarlet Spider and Peter’s clone—often visits. Her actions in the comics are ambiguous, including burning a warning from Madame Web before leaving. Later, the villain Shathra impersonates her in issue #24, adding another layer of mystery.

With Zendaya’s Michelle Jones-Watson having lost all memory of Peter after Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) spell, introducing Sink as a new possible love interest could shift the emotional core of the series. It also reinforces the idea that Watts’ trilogy is just the opening chapter in Peter’s MCU story.
The MCU’s Phase Five recently concluded with Thunderbolts* (2025), following Captain America: Brave New World. Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps premiered in July 2025.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives July 31, 2026, ahead of Avengers: Doomsday in December. Meanwhile, Kevin Feige has confirmed Black Panther 3 is on the way, coinciding with the exit of longtime producer Nate Moore after over a decade at Marvel Studios.
