Disney Announces Opening Date For San Fransokyo Square!

Every two years, Disney holds a massive convention for some of its biggest fans. Disney’s D23 Expo is called the ultimate fan event, and it takes place right across from the Disneyland Resort! The last D23 Expo took place in September 2022, and fans from around the world came to hear what was happening with Disney Parks, movies, and Disney+. The event was a huge success, with fans meeting other fans, meeting Disney stars like Jodi Benson, and hearing news from Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro.

The most in-demand event at every D23 Expo is the Disney Parks panel. During the Parks panel, fans learn what is coming to Disney Parks around the world in the future. During the 2022 Parks panel, Josh D’Amaro shared that Disney California Adventure Park would be getting a big retheme. The Pacific Wharf area would be transformed into San Fransokyo Square, inspired by the Pixar film Big Hero 6. Just months later, Imagineers were hard at work changing the classic area to the one from the movie.

It has been almost a year since the announcement was made, and now we finally know when San Fransokyo Square will open. On July 14, Disney updated the Disneyland Resort website to share that San Fransokyo Square will officially be open on August 31, 2023!

While San Fransokyo Square will not formally open until August 31, there are a number of food locations that Guests will be able to dine at prior to that date. The Lucky Fortune Cookery is getting a menu makeover and will feature new food offerings beginning July 19. Rita’s Turbine Blenders and Cocina Cucamonga will also be getting new menus and will begin offering the new food on July 26.

With the new area will also come two NEW dining options — Aunt Cass Café and San Fransokyo Cervecería. Both of those locations will open on August 31. Mobile ordering will be available at all these dining locations. You can take a look at the menus for all these locations by clicking here.

In addition to the amazing food that Guests will be able to purchase, there is also a brand-new meet and greet coming to the area. Since the whole area is based on Big Hero 6, then there is no better character to meet than Baymax! Baymax will be out greeting Guests beginning August 31.

It is important to note that theme park reservations are still required to visit both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Park hopping begins at 11 a.m. daily. This is sure to be a popular time to visit Disneyland Resort, so make sure to make your reservations ASAP.
