The doll is designed by artist Launi King, who when given the option of a Disney Princess to choose from was thrilled to select Tiana as Disney’s first African American princess. King shared that she has always been drawn to Princess Tiana due to her passion for cooking, and especially for making seafood gumbo with her father, a passion she has in common with this favorite Disney Princess.

King’s design that comes through in the finished doll also channels the positive traits that make Princess Tiana truly special, including her “giving heart, passion, resourcefulness, imagination, and beauty.” The embroidery on the doll’s dress is inspired by all of these traits plus Tiana’s journey to owning her own restaurant as viewers saw in The Princess and the Frog.

Princess Tiana’s couture-style gown that adorns the doll is sheer with organza sleeves taking some inspiration from the character’s various looks in the film. Her iconic ball-gown at the conclusion of the film certainly comes through in the doll’s design as well as earlier outfits worn before Tiana is transformed into a frog.

The doll is part of the Disney Designer Doll Collection‘s limited edition run of 9,800 models and each purchase will come with a certificate of authenticity.
