The green ogre who once anchored a longtime Orlando attraction has seen his presence shrink yet again at Universal Studios Florida. Visitors arriving this summer may have expected DreamWorks Land to deliver new life for the beloved character. Instead, they’re now discovering part of his swamp has already vanished.
For decades, Shrek has been a fixture in Universal’s lineup. The character’s introduction to the park in 2003 with Shrek 4-D gave families a fresh, humor-filled experience that extended the story beyond the Oscar-winning film. Blending motion seats, animation, and special effects, the show stood out at the time for its immersive qualities.

The attraction quickly became a family favorite, lasting nearly twenty years. Though the technology eventually showed its age, its humor and connection to the franchise kept it popular with families and longtime fans. Its closure in 2022 paved the way for Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, a mixed-reviewed shooter ride that later spawned a clone at Universal Studios Japan.
A Short-Lived Swamp
DreamWorks Land debuted in the summer of 2024, bringing together characters from film franchises such as Trolls, Kung Fu Panda, and Shrek.

While it did not include a dedicated Shrek ride, the land featured Shrek’s Swamp Meet, where visitors could meet Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey. Nearby, a splash pad called Shrek’s Swamp for Little Ogres offered younger guests a chance to cool off and play.
That playground, however, has now been removed without warning.
Construction walls appeared in late July, first enclosing part of the splash pad before eventually surrounding the entire space. Crews have since ripped out the play zone and its themed decor. The water guns once used to spray guests have also been deactivated.

Curiously, Universal’s website still lists the splash pad as part of DreamWorks Land. This fuels speculation about whether the change is temporary maintenance or a permanent removal.
Regardless, the sudden disappearance has been hard to miss — especially given that the area only opened a year ago.
