Snow Hits Disney Is Most Unexpected Way!

As many big Disney fans know, Walt Disney moved to Southern California — Burbank, to be exact — in 1923 with nothing more than a suitcase and a dream. Southern California was the perfect place for Walt to build his dream studio and, ultimately, his dream theme park. One of the best parts about Southern California is the moderate temperatures that allow Guests to visit Disneyland Resort year-round.

However, Walt’s Burbank Studio, as well as the Disneyland Resort, recently experienced something not seen in decades — snow.

That’s right. On March 1, videos were circulating on social media of snow falling at both the Walt Disney Company studio lot in Burbank and Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. While the temperature has been known to dip into the 30s at night, the last time the area saw snowfall was more than ten years ago.

It’s snowing at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank. 🤯

While it’s amazing to see snow falling in Burbank, it may have been even more startling to see it in Anaheim, which is an hour south of Burbank. Okay, some might technically call it graupel, but we prefer snow.

And now it’s snowing at Disneyland.

Yes, technically it’s graupel. But this is as close as it will ever get to snowing at Disneyland and graupeling is not a word … so here we are. 🎥:

Graupel is what is formed when super-cooled water droplets fall onto freezing snow. It is also called soft hail or hominy snow. The weather in Southern California has been particularly wild lately, with snow falling at some of the lowest levels we’ve seen. For the areas where it was too warm to snow, rain fell, and severe flooding occurred. There were also wind advisories, which knocked out power to tens of thousands of people.

This crazy, snow-forming weather seems to be nearly over. Disneyland Resort is expected to see temperatures in the sixties for the foreseeable future.
