For most guests, riding Space Mountain is a must-do experience during any trip to Magic Kingdom Park, Disneyland Park, and other international Disney parks. Known for its thrilling dips, sharp turns, and iconic darkness, this Tomorrowland classic holds a special place in many fans’ hearts. But what if you could experience three different versions of the beloved roller coaster in a single week?
One lucky Walt Disney World Resort guest recently did just that. Last month, Reddit user u/Haunted_Soul666 shared their unique experience, detailing how they managed to encounter three distinct versions of Space Mountain within a few days at Magic Kingdom. Here’s how it all happened.

Unlike other Disney parks, such as Disneyland Park in California or Disneyland Paris, where Space Mountain has received extensive overlays like Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain, Walt Disney World Resort keeps its version fairly consistent. However, Magic Kingdom Park guests can experience special versions of Space Mountain exclusive to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Space Mountain runs as usual during regular park hours, thrilling guests with its fast-paced, mostly dark track. But come evening, ticketed event guests get exclusive access to unique versions of the ride: a completely dark, silent ride for Halloween and a festive, red-and-green-lit ride with holiday music for Christmas.
For Redditor u/Haunted_Soul666, visiting during one of these events allowed them to catch one of the unique Space Mountain overlays in addition to the standard daytime version. And as a final surprise, a technical glitch added an unexpected twist to their experience.
“Managed to get Normal Space Mountain, Halloween version in the dark… Then today, ride broke down on the first uphill,” they wrote. “Got stuck for about 10/15 mins then the rest of the ride with everything lit up and no music.”
Disney Parks fans know an in-ride breakdown with lights on is rare and almost feels like a rite of passage. What usually happens in darkness becomes an entirely different experience under bright lights, revealing all the tracks and intricate designs usually hidden. While some guests might find a breakdown disappointing, u/Haunted_Soul666 saw it as a stroke of luck.
“I suppose I’ll count myself as lucky to experience 3 different scenarios in a week!” they concluded.
