In the words of Mr. Incredible, “No matter how many times you save the world, it always manages to get back in jeopardy again. Sometimes I just want it to stay saved!” Based on a viral Twitter thread, it would appear devoted fans of The Incredibles wanted the original to stay untouched by a sequel.

A tweet by @Reza_shuaib went viral on Thursday sharing a carousel of sequels considered “even better” than the original films.

The list featured films Spiderman 2, Blade II, The Suicide Squad, and Incredibles 2. Despite the Disney-Pixar sequel grossing $648 million at the worldwide box office—surpassing the original’s $633 million—Twitter users seemed to disagree with the original poster’s ranking vehemently.

User @NoahNG777 shared this firm stance on the superhero sequel:

In no way shape or form is Incredibles 2 better than Incredibles 1…

@HarlsBrainrot added:

now I KNOW you didn’t just put Incredibles 2 on here

In Pixar Animation Studio’s breakout success, The Incredibles (2004), Fans were introduced to an incredible—inexplicably relatable—family residing in Metroville. Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) and his wife Helen (Elastigirl) juggle super-talented kiddos Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack while attempting to lead “normal” lives years after they retire from crime-fighting. An unexpected call sparks a top-secret assignment that forces the family to band together and shake the dust off their hidden talents.

Headed by director Brad Bird, who also voiced the incomparable Edna “E” Mode, The Incredibles cast featured Craig T. Nelson as Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible), Holly Hunter portraying Helen (Elastigirl), Sarah Vowell as Violet Parr, Spencer Fox as Dashiell “Dash” Parr, and Eli Fucille and Maeve Andrews behind the dynamic Jack-Jack. Also in the mix as Frozone was the prolific actor Samuel L. Jackson.

The Incredibles catapulted into the Disney-Pixar Hall of Fame with its power-packed characters, superhero troupes, and sharp wit. It seemed like Pixar fans would feast on another incredible installment of the animated film, and the box office numbers would indicate that 2018’s The Incredibles 2 was a smash hit. However, impassioned responses to the Pixar sequel’s spot on a top-ranked list say otherwise.

Hitting theaters 14 years after The Incredibles, the Incredibles 2 plot revisits the arc of the original film with banned superheroes attempting to return to normalcy and a friction-filled call for Mr. Incredible to spring into action. This time, Helen has to manage the impossible task of running the household full of super-kids while Bob reports for duty in a faraway land.

With the Pixar sequel picking up right where the first film left off, fans like @ComicLoverMarifelt felt holes were left in its character development:

Incredibles 2 is one of the worst sequels it gave us a terrible twist villain and Jack Jack being used to make the plot go forward

Of course, after joining the box office ranks of game-changing Walt Disney hits like Frozen, Incredibles 2 has fans like @Chris_woods9804 vouching for the sequel:

Ok hold up what’s with all the Incredibles 2 hate I’m seeing on my tl both movies are masterpieces

More support for Incredibles 2 entered the thread with this tweet from @hapademonpunk:

Am I just crazy???? What is this and the replies??? I loved Incredibles 2!! Just as good if not better than the first!!

When a Disney-Pixar film works its way into the hearts of millions, it’s “mission impossible” to live up to expectations higher than Elasti-girl’s wing span. Despite the heated Twitter debate, the billions of box office dollars don’t lie, solidifying Incredibles 2 as one of the highest-grossing animated films ever.
