“That Story’s Not Over Yet”: DeSantis Renews Fight with Disney During Speech Out of State

On Monday, April 3, Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed investors at The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of the Shareholders and finally gave serious comment on the “culture war” that resulted in the loss of control over the area of Central Florida known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Iger explained how much money Disney was prepared to invest in The Sunshine State and most notably called Gov DeSantis’ actions “anti-business” and “anti-Florida.”

Just before the stockholder meeting, it was revealed that the not-terminated Disney-appointed Board of Directors of Reedy Creek had granted The Walt Disney Company special development control that leaves the new board powerless for the next 30 years. DeSantis, who has already filed a formal investigation into the orchestration of those eleventh-hour agreements, spoke at an event in Michigan, saying that Disney “tried to pull a fast one” but that it was far from a victory.

“All I can say is, that story’s not over yet,” DeSantis said, according to CBS News. “Buckle up, there’s going to be more coming down the pike.”

It is unclear whether or not any foul play will come out of the investigation at this time, as Disney continues to affirm that everything was done in accordance with the law. But only time will tell if DeSantis and Florida’s State Congress in Tallahassee will be admitting defeat or not.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that normal operations will continue at The Walt Disney World Resort and the rest of the newly-named Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.
