Die-hard fans are no strangers to carefully-crafted Easter eggs in Disney’s famous films.
Worlds have collided countless times throughout Disney’s animated classics, with character cameos dropping when fans least expect it. It was hard to miss Scar from The Lion King when Hercules embarked on his godly makeover in Hercules (1997). Disney fans also hit “rewind” when the Genie from Aladdin (1992) waved Sebastian from The Little Mermaid off his finger while a clip of the song “Under the Sea” played.
While some of Disney’s crossovers are fleeting fun moments written into the script, others are more intentional. Disney’s trademark princesses may hail from different kingdoms, but they have undeniable similarities. Their long locks, doe eyes, and soprano singing skills comprise a formula they all share.
But what some Disney fans may have missed is a deeper connection between three of its most prominent kingdoms—with cameos in each other’s films.
A ‘Tangled’ Web of Princesses
In a post by Ivan Mars on TikTok (@its_ivanmars), the self-proclaimed “Movie Detective” and ultimate Disney fan revealed the thread through three fan-favorite Disney movies: The Little Mermaid (1989), Frozen (2013), and Tangled (2010).
The Disney theory about the royal trifecta begins with Anna and Elsa’s parents dying in a shipwreck in the movie Frozen. According to Ivan, Frozen directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck confirmed Anna and Elsa’s parents were headed to Flynn and Rapunzel’s wedding from Tangled when they passed. Disney fans can see that confirmation when Rapunzel and Flynn are sneakily shown at Anna and Elsa’s coronation.
In the video, Ivan continues mapping the journey from Arendelle in Norway to Flynn and Rapunzel’s wedding in Germany, passing through the North Sea. Bordering Denmark, where The Little Mermaid is set, Ivan points out the sunken ship Princess Ariel notices at the film’s beginning belonged to Anna and Elsa’s parents. While some Disney fans may have drawn some of the royal connections, uncovering every Disney Easter egg in its movie universe is like pinpointing every last hidden Mickey at the Parks.
It’s nearly impossible, but the pursuit of princess connections keeps Disney enthusiasts on the hook—hoping the pieces come together for a super-sized Disney film in the future.
