As everybody begins preparing for another Thanksgiving, Disney opened ticket sales for its latest Thanksgiving theatrical release: Strange World.
The animated adventure epic starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal is just the latest Disney film to take up the traditional holiday release and promises an out-of-this-world story about an extraordinary family reunion in a macabre land full of the most bizarre creatures anybody could imagine.
Directed by Walt Disney Animation Studios icon Don Hall and written by Qui Nguyen (co-writer “Raya and the Last Dragon”), Disney describes its latest feature as the following:
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ original action-packed adventure “Strange World” introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog and a slew of ravenous creatures. The voice cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal as Searcher Clade, a family man who finds himself out of his element on an unpredictable mission; Dennis Quaid as Searcher’s larger-than-life explorer father, Jaeger; Jaboukie Young-White as Searcher’s 16-year-old son, Ethan, who longs for adventure; Gabrielle Union as Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things; and Lucy Liu as Callisto Mal, Avalonia’s fearless leader who spearheads the exploration into the strange world.
In the past, Thanksgiving Week has seen the debut of several instant classics, including Frozen and Coco. After a multi-year reprieve from the family holiday tradition, only time will tell if Strange World has what it takes to stand among some of the greats in Disney animation.
