Top 5 Romantic Disney World Resorts

There is a spirit of fantasy and wonder—“Disney magic” we like to call it—that swirls around us inside the Walt Disney World Resorts, an atmosphere that, although perfect for a family-fun getaway, lends itself just as nicely to the romantic couple as well. Among plenty of other enticing amenities, these resorts offer services like relaxing and indulgent couple’s massages and intimate fine-dining restaurants, ushering couples straight into a dreamy fairytale setting not unlike those of the beloved Disney classics. There are 25 themed resort hotels on property that are owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company and while all of them, in their own way, have been known to deliver romantic charm there are some that stand out above the rest. These five Disney Resorts below have wooed our hearts, providing the ideal setting for a destination full of romance and love.

5. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

As it nears the completion of an exhaustive remodeling project, this updated resort will provide even more reason for lovebirds to take a relaxing holiday amidst a tropical setting with South Pacific flair. Though the beloved lobby waterfall centerpiece is now just a memory of the Polynesian Resort’s past (insert dejected sigh), there are new sights and experiences for the romantic couple to discover and enjoy. Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto—a lounge inspired by the popular Disneyland version—will be among these new experiences and will provide a great atmosphere for couples to enjoy tasty cocktails and small plates. The resort grounds offer winding walkways equipped with lit tiki torches, encouraging romantic evening or late night strolls. The white sandy beaches here—a prime viewing spot for the nightly Magic Kingdom fireworks and Electrical Water Pageant—have always beckoned couples to cozy up together and take in the beautiful sights of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella Castle. The overall atmosphere is exotic and tropical, yet warm and cozy at the same time. Sharing a Dole Whip from the Pineapple Lanai has never been more romantic as you wander among lush landscape and listen to the tranquil sounds of nearby waterfalls. You can even learn the gentle sway of the hula with your other half during the free hula dancing lessons in the Grand Ceremonial House.

4. Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort/Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort

This resort divided into two distinct parts—Riverside and French Quarter—is a popular place for those seeking a romantic excursion. The French Quarter charms couples with quaint walkways, beautiful fountains and blooming flora while Riverside grants a more rustic setting with oak and magnolia tree- lined passageways featuring the occasional horse-drawn carriage. The tranquil banks of the Sassagoula River winds through both sections of the resort and provides guests transportation to and from Downtown Disney via a complimentary ferry. Easily one of the most picturesque moderate Disney resorts, there is a sense of intimacy and an air of romance to this resort, enveloping you the moment you step foot onto the grounds. There are quite a few amenities here, including the aforementioned romantic horse drawn carriage rides, surrey and bike rentals, fishing, and invigorating swimming pools. A must for couples staying on site is to visit the Scat Cat’s Club, a lounge that showcases lively piano music and smooth jazz vocals by the insanely talented Tom Casey.

3. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

This rustic resort combining the feel of the great outdoors with modern accommodations grants an ideal setting for couples. The woodsy tones of the lobby envelop guests with a warm and cozy intimacy that makes it one of my favorite destinations when I’m vacationing with my husband. Lit fireplaces crackle from various private corners of the resort, an inviting space for cuddling couples with the plush, leather chairs and couches that surround them. There are pine-forested nature trails to be explored hand-in-hand with your loved one and the waterfront view of Bay Lake begs to be enjoyed from the quiet, sandy beach. Grab a hot chocolate or coffee and stroll along the waterfalls and burbling creeks, or relax poolside with a cocktail or two. This resort also offers a superior signature dining restaurant, Artist Point.

2. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

I think my jaw fell to the ground the first time I stepped foot inside Jambo House and into the lobby of the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Stunningly beautiful, this resort captures the heart of Africa and the savannah and truly knows how to leave a lasting impression on its guests. The dimly lit, multi-leveled lobby—enchantingly cavernous and incredibly ambient—exudes romance. Couples will have a hard time running out of things to discover and explore together, learning traditional African customs and sampling African fare. There are several cozy nooks to relax in all around the resort grounds, some providing a glorious view of the exotic animals roaming the savanna, some offering a lit fire to sit around and enjoy. There are award-winning restaurants found here, guaranteeing a romantic and intimate meal. If you are looking for a place to enjoy a cocktail, the Victoria Falls Lounge is second to none in terms of the most romantic lounges on Disney property, stationed on a level all its own just below the main lobby and above Boma.
